Figured I’d put this up in case anyone has some songs they want tracked. I’d just send you all the session files and you can do with what you want! Just PM for more details if interested.
Just to add: I know a lot of people here don’t need this - but I know a lot of people around the country don’t have access to players like this. So, if you always wanted to find out what your song would sound like with killer players, just pm.

Very interested. I would love to understand how it would work, costs etc. and I imagine others would too. You prefer PM or chat here so everyone can see?

Man John…I’ve always wanted to cut myself singing “Amazing Grace” or maybe “I Did It My Way”. You think the guys would be up for that?

Great idea and offer for projects in need, because the players around town there I agree are some of the very best.

Intriguing, JK.. Not clear on how that would work. Send homemade demos? Get Pro versions? You oversee the presentation to the pros?
BTW, I'm a HUGE fan of JK as a song writer and vocalist. It's what got me here to RGO off GS in the first place.

Just as long as that’s the structure you want the song in…that’s what we would use to chart. As far as production, I usually ask for comparison songs to get a sense of instrumentation and vibe. And of course we would talk and make sure we were on the same page. Then we track and I send over the files.

This level of musicianship and production talent makes me want to move to Nashville! Not sure this is the right thread for this post, but it's a pretty good advertisement for using pro session players.

BTW, I'm a HUGE fan of JK as a song writer and vocalist. It's what got me here to RGO off GS in the first place. Back on "the other site" in 2007 a thread popped up by some guy named Johnkenn comparing an X73i (which I had then, and still do, my first serious pre) and the ever popular Great River ME-1NV, with vocals through a Peluso 2247. The whole production sounded sooo pro to me, through either chain, and I realized my "investment" was sound. The main thing though was the song and voice, dang! If my recordings weren't hitting the mark, it wasn't really the gear :-) I didn't realize at first that RGO was run by the same person, made me even happier to get involved once I figured that out. Thanks!

Not sure this is the right thread for this post, but it's a pretty good advertisement for using pro session players. Yeah maybe we should start a different one for this video. I saw this. All killer players…but wasn’t crazy about the end result. Not dogging anyone - Buk is Buk, Tim Lauers great, Steve Mackey…and McHugh is a beast…The first Kacey Musgraves record Tashian produced and wrote on was exceptional sounding. This…sounded a little stock to me…but opinions are like assholes! They will probably be celebrating a number 1 soon. But I would have wanted to kept going in this one…

Just listening again. It’s better than my first impression. Actually really like the melody. I would want a bunch of EG overdub parts…maybe something a little dirtier…and this thing is begging for some B3…

I was under the impression they were done in just a few takes, playing from charts without much practice, which is quite amazing to me considering my inexperience with real pros. I'm just a serious hobbyist really, get essentially zero real life interaction with this level of talent. I ended up watching the video maybe 10 times. All the musicians look like they let themselves get into the spell of the song, even if they didn't like it I would never know it, and they seem quite emotionally cohesive if I had to come up with terms for it. The bassist looks like he could be playing in his sleep but he holds the groove perfectly and props up the low-end.
I might just be easily impressed, ha ha.
Overall though, when I listened, I just let the song come to me and tried not to actively look for little (or large) possible improvements. I was impressed by the air between instruments, the polished tone, ability to pick out everything with such clarity, sounds really nice to my ears - totally loving the drum sound and perfectly timed fills that bookend the lyrics and changes without getting in the way, the deep smack of the snare too. I guess those are vintage U67s on vocals?? My only minor complaint mix wise was I wish the vocals were a bit louder at times. I appreciated the musicians choices for the most part, played to the song and didn't overdo it while adding nice little ear candy. Knowing that the guitarists could bust out some complicated virtuoso-type stuff, it all seemed like good choices for me - but if I could hear a Johnkenn produced version, with B3, it's quite possible I'd like it even more. :-)
The first three Kacey Musgraves albums are on my regular playlist for my day job, but I don't usually announce that, ha ha.
Should I start a new thread or could you move this somehow? Thanks. -Chris

Thanks! John's voice is incredible! And the Songwriting etc., is exceptional too. Like I've said before... Any real Justice in the Music Industry, the Singer/Songwriters would retake more Custody of it again!! Chris P.S. I'll look at the Video tonight.

So - this was a session with 4 tunes from 3 different clients. This might give a little idea of the process.

I can’t do this, but you can be like “oh, my bad, it’s not in C - it’s in F# - and they know it so well they can just play like nothing happened. The Diamonds around a number are chords that are held out for the length of the bar. Then you see all the accent notations. Actually - here’s a great primer… www.sweetwater.com/insync/the-nashville-number-system-demystified/
