I am not questioning their reputation, just encouraging a buyer to do their due diligence before sending someone they don’t know $3500 over the net .

I'm interested. Exchanged emails with Don and feel comfortable. Great total price including shipping. The only thing I don't know at this point is how much import/tariff/taxes are going to be. No sense making the leap only to find the cost is the same or similar to state-side. Also have read that UPS/FedEx/DHL will kill you on their processing fees for import. And that Royal Mail does not (or has not in the past). Anyone have any experience with expected costs/percentages to import to US from UK? I tried looking it up on the government website, and like everything else government related, it's difficult to understand.

I’ve seen them go on sale at VK for $3500 occasionally. Good to know. This is in the same ballpark. All depends on import and taxes as to whether it's better than a VK sale.

Larkings has been around for ages. I think its Tony Larkings (old Neve technician - think TLA audio) brother.

I believe Vincent R on here has a pair I have a pair of their 49s, but my friend Jim has let me borrow his 47 a few times to make videos. It will use an EF12 tube instead of a VF14 and changes are made to accommodate that, but my feeling is it’s one of the best U47 replicas on the market. They gear their mics to sound Vintage, which is a quality I really like.

FLEA is fantastic as is Larking. Not sure why a poster has not heard of Larking. FLEA 47 is a genuinesound 47 mic with very high quality build and parts. The techs at FLEA are listeners who hone in on the real 47 sound. I use a FLEA47 here and I am the original FLEAFREAK. You can make a shoot out with a vintage good (not dull) 47 and a FLEA47 and hear a very gratifying and laudable sound from FLEA. It is identifiable by being very close to the real thing. Not an amateur here or new to tubesound. Make a move towards FLEA with confidence.
For those that are curious, import duty on mics is 4%. If sent in the mail instead of by UPS or FedEx, there is usually no duty assessed.

I believe Vincent R on here has a pair At the moment I have decided not to pursue this, but for those interested: - I was quoted $2,790 British Pounds, shipped and insured, so with today's exchange rate that is $3,468 USD. - A 4% import fee adds another $139 USD. - Then I believe you have to include your state's tax. For me (IL) that would be around $217 USD. Approximate final cost then (assuming all calculations are correct) would be: $3,824.

I don’t think you’d see state tax collected on an import.

I don’t think you’d see state tax collected on an import. in which case it would depend on whether IL has a version of NC’s self-reporting E-500 “Sales and Use Tax” form...

This is bankrupt and corrupt Illinois. Of course there is a self-reporting Use Tax! BTW...Don sold the Flea. He had two he had received in trade directly with Flea. He let me know if I wanted one to let him know and he would see if he could get another.
