My wife wanted some cheap red wine to use for cooking. She has a sign in the kitchen that reads "I love to cook with wine, sometimes I even put it in the food". So we went to a local winery and bought the almost cheapest wine we could find, Magnotta oak-aged merlot, $7.95 a bottle. It's VQA, which means it passed certain Ontario quality tests. There are actually lots of high-quality boutique wineries in Ontario, mostly in the Niagara On The Lake region near Niagara Falls.
We got it home, tasted it, and it's the best red wine we've ever had. Goes down smooth, no bitter after-taste, we couldn't believe it. We have lots of parties, friends and acquaintances often bring their favourite red wines with them, French, Chilean, Spanish, Australian. All their wines are fine, but they are blown away when they try the Magnotta.
Unfortunately, we've yet to discover a great Ontario white wine.

b2, red wine often gives my wife a migraine, so we drink white wine more often.
Our favourite white wines are German rieslings, which can be sweet. We found a new favourite just a couple of weeks ago, Schmitt Sohne "Relax". We don't find it overly sweet, but wow, it is so smooth, no bitter aftertaste, it just goes down like water. My wife and her two nieces, who stay with us on weekends, will sometimes down 4 or 5 bottles at a sitting. Eventually it catches up with them, even though it's only 9% alcohol. It is a qualitatswein, so it's considered good quality, but it's semi-sweet so it's probably not suitable for "real" wine drinkers who tend to favour the drier varieties.
Ontario is great at producing ice wine, because of our crappy weather. Those are very, very sweet dessert wines, and quite delicious if you have a sweet tooth.

Canary Islands, wow! That's the kind of nowhere that I could appreciate. Welcome! Ha ha ha. Thanks for the welcome. Really nice place this one. I'd fancy a Toronto trip, too. My brother was there playing with his band and told me they had a great time. They walked through the place so much their feet hurt.

If you're ever visiting Toronto, please let me know. Maybe I can drown myself in beer while you're talking about the beautiful Canary Islands.
