Loving my WT72’s on many individual sources…great for tracking and killer on VSTs! Don’t have them yet, but really looking forward to the RS660’s as well…from what I’ve heard online, I think they’re gonna be a game changer for me!

Oh, and for a plug, the UAD API 560…like just put that on your mix bus, turn it down 1db to gain match and it’s exceptional what it does without any setting engaged. I learned that from Marc Daniel Nelson and it really is truth!

In plugins: Satin, Dopamine, SPL PQ. I assume we're mainly talking saturation characteristics, but Basslane Pro can also instantly change a whole mix for the better. Cedar Adaptive Limiter could also be in the same boat.
Hardware: Fusion, VSM-2, Portico II, Culture Vulture 15(I'm assuming the others are just as beneficial), HEDD, Black Box, Silver Bullet MKI. I'm only listing things that I've tried.
I'm dying to find out if the PQ hardware will be even better than the plugin when increasing the input volume. Also really intrigued by what I could do with a Silver Bullet MKII since the plugin is so good. For mojo the PQ plugin is just as important as the expensive hardware that I utilize on a master.

Density all day! Just got a second one. Also lately I’ve been loving the Zvukofor Ordinary Magic Desktop into the Iron Age Portia Street Stomp Bought this as well! Digging the ordinary magic. Living on my guitar bus currently! I had a Portia street stomp for a bit but it just felt too subtle to me - at least for my applications.

Everything Gyraf Audio. So many of Jakob's boxes are unique but completely indispencable once you use them.

So this thread turned me on to learning about the Whitestone P331. Fascinating device. It's a REALLY well thought out feature set. I was a bit put off at first by the idea of digital control, but the logic behind it of keeping the audio path out of the front panel makes sense from the perspective of the design ethos of the device. There are a few good reviews/articles on the website. Two of them are quite remarkable. One of them for providing an extraordinarily technical review with graphs and charts: www.whitestoneaudio.com/studio-magazin-p331/The other one as a cool story of the industrial production journey where they landed with a local metalworks company after lots of challenges: www.whitestoneaudio.com/the-fabricator/I love entrepreneurial success stories like this. Very inspiring!

I'm a ham-fisted hack, but my favorites these days are Coil CA70, Highland BG1 and Urei 562. I send stuff out to pedals a lot with a Radial EXTC too, which is probably the most fun to be had.

Let’s be real here: room mics and reverb! Good reverb is killer! Send everything to a good reverb if you don’t have good room mics up (EV Re50b are great and cheap for this) and it just sounds better. And I mean good, not some muddy, grainy modern crap that tries to emulate old, glorified special effect verbs and fails like that one alliteratively named plugin beloved of Reddit, KVR, and awful modern pop and rap producers.

Sontec MEP-250a stereo eq. Even at unity gain with all the bands set to 0db boost/cut. Must be those hs1000 opamps. Just makes a track sound electric. Like it’s trying to come alive and exit its world through your speakers to live in your room with you.

BTW… I do find the somewhat/seamingly “gimmicky”… Buttons on things like the Prosumer UA Volt and Focusrites, sometimes worth a try. For example, an EV 767a through the Scarlett/Clarett tends to sound better through the “Air Button”. (Hey it ‘s just like Rupert Neve made Console! ) Sometimes a conventional Dynamic through a Volt’s “Vintage Button” (Circuit emulation of UA 610 Pre) is interesting too. Semi-Slummig it with AKG D770>UA Volt today. Realistically more a suggestion for your Recording Musician friends, who have a budget Volt or a newer Scarlett/Clarett USB Interface. Chris P.S. Oddly enough the best Budget Interface Pre on me is… The Presonus Audiobox!!

Gee I'm feeling better about my $200 Launcher now. Chris Postscript… If you sing “through your Nose”. Which I did partially for many years… IMHO the original Launcher will probably be a “No Nose”-ahem No No. Harsh City! Below I minimized the Nasality and (of course).., May have gone a bit overboard in the Smooth Department. This is AKG D770>Launcher>UA Volt Vintage Button ON. One Take RAW Acapella vocal. Chris

Hold the Launcher! Here's the humble UA Volt "Vintage Button" helping my brief Acapella 58 "one take" Vocal. Same vocal 3X. 1st part RAW. 2nd with Compression. 3rd with Compression and 2% Plate Reverb. IMHO nice for Live and in little Box-y Rooms. Chris
