when I was starting out and asking for gear advice for my project.
every post started and ended in treating the room, they never seem to acknowledge you read it the first time followed by the next 20-30 times even stating multiple times between I read it the first time,
Then the same person brushes over your only question on what to gear to buy, Then tries to belittle you for not knowing something then proceed to create their own personal narrative where I am giving bad advice.
Its all well and good but treating your space only gets you so far when you end up with nothing to record with.

I always hated that it was called Gearslutz. I remember it showing up in an accelerator once in a livestream when I was typing an s or a g in the field. They cancelled me off there today. I couldn't see myself of course, then I logged in and could see my posts. They didn't like me saying the jab kills and covid the fake sickness was a crime against humanity larger than any before or ever. I had already been shunned for my new Prophet 10 song "She Drinks Piss". NASTY people everywhere on the internet these days. LITTERALY CUT YOUR TONGUE OUT FOR EVERY THING A PERSON SAYS. I was actually CENSORED for saying the word NAZI yesterday in that post an RIP to the drummer from Faster Pussycat. Then today the posts had all been shadowbanned. They're pretty inept over there, couldn't hide the shadowban from me.
I think the context, well I could look it up as I always make a text file for any posts these days cause most of them wind up shadowbanned or deleted everywhere, was something like "Medical Disinfo [talking about being cancelled off Youtube after Alt Media saw the rush of death reports as the Jab rolled out (and injury reports of course wild injuries like we never ever saw before)] is NAZI for TRUTH". Well that posted as **** for truth. So I guess they won't let you say NAZI there which is just wrong. I just hate the place. I hadn't been back there in YEARS then I found them in a search for Prophet 10 a few weeks ago and had begun posting a few things in that forum. Friggin Retarded website that cancelled me about 5 years ago too. Not fond of the place, plus there were all these A**holes there I remember in the posts. I literally think of the internet as a DEAD place. You can't search for anything, much less post things or be seen above the crowd of PROFESSIONAL A**holes you see everywhere, scratching one anothers backsides and sniffing their fingers.

I had to join in 2006? to defend an ebay custom re-rack sale I had up, wildly ignorant rabid criticism in a thread. Already participated in some decent forums and GS was already a shitstorm.
The remote recording forum is also generally pro and civil, I’ll check it since there’s ambient technique discussions that don’t go on amongst the close mic crowd.
The occasional historic thread can be interesting, but most of the meat in those already exists places like the Steve Hoffman forums.
Sometimes it’s fun to set a stopwatch and go in, see how many seconds it takes to read something so ridiculous you tap right back out.

Let me just lay this out for you here in public. This is a really, really bad first impression you’ve made for yourself. First, this has become a political issue. So, I’m sure you read in the board rules that there will be no political discussion on the forum. Secondly, I’ll just reiterate - this is a pro audio forum. I was on there for a bit, but WAY too often threads devolve into pointless arguments….very annoying when you’re reading through a thread trying to learn something. Creeped RGO for a bit and found it much more inline with my preferences…definitely enjoying it!

I still go there every once in a while just to waste some time and maybe learn something. Usually. I just get fed up with the bizarre attitudes and angry post or incredibly naive post... that I leave.
I sometimes wish we had more threads going here but that requires more people, more baggage and trolls. I just don't get it sometimes. I have been going out of my way the last few years to cut as much drama from my life as possible.

PSW and MP forum transplant here, like a lot original Gearslutz members. Back when Craig Anderton was moderator at MP forums before he moved to Harmony Central. GS in those day’s was killer. A lot of great industry icons to bounce ideas off of.
There was once a double CD manufactured around the dawn of GearSlutz. Regular members contributed a track. Alphajerk, Curve Dominant, Harvey Gerst, Fletcher, Jules, Tedster, Master Zap, myself and several others I cannot remember. Based on what everybody used for recording, the results spoke volumes about gear versus resourcefulness, creativity and skill. It gave you a different perspective when reading the rants or raves about gear. Not much different than today I suppose. And then you had cats like Michael Wagener who had zero pretentiousness about gear, used anything, at any price point, if it worked for him.
I was. I questioned one of the vendor/sponsors about some obviously shady BS there and got a nasty message from a moderator about it threatening me with a ban. I heard that others were getting the same treatment and that there would be new forum to go to and I was one of the first to sign up. A few years in, Jules really started treating paying sponsors differently. He was treating feedback of said sponsors with great scrutiny, removing negative comments or shared experiences about a company if they were a sponsor. It irritated a lot of people. Myself and others were so vocal about it on GS that one day in my studio in Texas, I get a call from England. It was Jules and he was on the verge of banning regulars. In the end, he did give me the chance to make my point and speak for other members and the validity of our perspective, and he was cool and took it to heart. It got better. And then it seemed, Jules fatherhood, the 'dad' sub-forum, the lawsuit, name change… yeah. Different site. I truly find it a terrible place today. RGO was a bit of a godsend. I found it looking for some info on a mic. Respectable adult conversations about something I really enjoy.

The problem with any forum or Social Media is there are 2 possible sources of income; subscription, really limits your growth. Selling advertising, he who pays the bills sets the rules. |
