None. It really better be great though, with that badge on there. Otherwise it’s just a money grab.

The thing is, I’m sure a solid interface but ….
They’re not 1073 character preamps they’re 88LB’s which are great when you want solid and vanilla but I’m not sold on the idea they make the interface extra special.
Then there’s Neve track record on software support.
I think I’d rather spend my pennies on an RME interface (which I do) something like a Babyface Pro - it will have the best drivers in the industry and get supported long enough to hand it down to your great grandchildren.
Save a little longer and get a character pre or two.
That said for a mobile stereo recording interface it’s got a lot going for it or a mobile writing rig where you have the option of recording a few keeper tracks as the 88LB is a high quality pre no doubt about it.

It's sad when you click on a thread about a Neve 88 - only to find out it's about an interface.....

I was looking into it at the time it was released as a friend of mine was upgrading his gear and had an interest in it. I havn't used it myself, but listened to some clips. I have a hard time justifying the price tag. Im sure its a great interface, the size combined with adat’s and what not is awesome. And the sound Im sure is stellar. But the thing is, it is really hard to find any really bad interfaces today, at least within the rather well known and respectable manufacturers. But if Neve is the selling point for you here, i believe an apollo twin x with similar price tag would give you more that neve character’s with the 88rs or 1073 etc. used in unison. That would open some options if the 88rs sound is not exactly what you are after. And only trying one out will reveal if the “based on 88rs” will live up to your expectations of it. As mentioned earlier a cheaper interface with a nice pre (some neve or neve cole maybe) might be a great way to go. I would probably opt for that personally.

FWIW Australian Producer/AE Gene Michael Hall has one, and enjoys using it. Just based on that, I'm sure it has its niche(s) for someone else. Chris

Unit is excellent.Sound is neutral and rich. Stable software. Can add 8 more channels via ADAT in. Send and return on TRS allows insertion of outboard.
I do a disregard on posters who post without using the gear.

How is the preamps compared to the usual transformerless Interface pre options that we are used to hearing? How is your experience with using the usb power? Anything else you would like to mention?

I do a disregard on posters who post without using the gear. When this first was announced I saw a potential use case as a mix down box because of the inserts and transformer. I’m literally sitting in a hotel right now thinking “I could put one of these and my Tegeler Creme in a carryon pretty easily.”

SSL 12 seems like double the interface for 60% less money. I like the dual headphone out on the 12, that means portable overdub rig. I’d love to test drive both and see if the audio difference on the Neve is worth the extra cost. If it’s burl or similar quality conversion, that’s a deal.
(I see them mention big iron marinair, that’s good. Also sort of strange way to say it in the marketing, to me anyway?)

Well there goes 95% of all audio forum posts everywhere-including mine! Hey that's NEVER stopped us before. (Cues the 'ol Tin Pan Alley/Al Jolson hit "You're Nobody Without A Neve") LOL! Chris

It's great, but...
The cons in my opinion: • There's no software with it, which some find a pro, but if you expand with ADAT there's no way to monitor those ADAT outside of your DAW. Not always ideal.
• Nice that it's bus powered, but not nice that it's only bus powered. Would be better to have an external power option.
• You can't connect it via ADAT to something else if it's not also connected to a computer.
• Lots of complaints about the levels being really hot on the DI. Seems ridiculous, honestly.
• The insert options are great, but you can't use those and bypass the preamps. (You can on the new Audient ID24.)

For what it is, it looks promising IMO. Preamps more lively than the transparent interface pres we're used to hearing, quite portable and easy to run. Good converters. Potentially great for serious musicians and engineers on the move.
Lots of praise from users, and issues seem to have been taken serious by Neve. Maybe not flexible enough for some users, but they're probably not the market they're aiming for.
This is how I interpret all this so far. With that said, I want to like this, because I think it's a great idea by Neve.

I like this new NEVEBOX much better than their stand alone 500 series 88 mic pres. This usb powered preamp is much closer (the same) as a real Neve 88R. Worlds away from the cheapy chip interface circuitry and vanilla interface land of bland and ordinary cuisine! Stability has been excellent with the usb power stable. Many posters overlook that AMS-Neve has presented a simple 2 channel interface solely focused on Sound Quality. That is what sets it apart. Endorsed!

Well that sounds amazing! And the "popular interface" sounds like a pile of steaming garbage that nobody would ever listen to. Night and day. Couldn't possibly be any more different unless you're utterly deaf. Ok, sarcasm done. What I'd really love to hear is someone pushing the transformers and then using the insert to bring the output down. That's the biggest unique feature here and you're not gonna get it listening to a politely tracked acoustic guitar and shaker.

Yeah it probably would have better served Neve and most customers if they had partnered with an Established interface vendor for control software, but this is how manufacturers learn their lesson. Now Neve how about some trickle down and either a single or dual ch bus powered interface I can use with SoundToolz on the IPad?

You're Nobody without a Neve. don’t forget the other saying “Buy a Neve, Go out of Business” I’m starting to really like the idea of this thing. The options for transformer balanced line in conversion is so very limited, so this is a welcome device. Thanks for sharing the positive experience.
