Question. How dumb would it be on a scale of 1-10 to buy a Serrano 87 to then change the capsule to a genuine Neumann from Sennheiser? This is possible, of course, but in my humble opinion not necessary. For the past 3 years I have been using Guosheng Zhuang's (3U Audio) K87 capsule. I cannot speak for every capsule Guosheng produces but his K87 is truly incredible in how close it is to a genuine Neumann K87 capsule. I have tried many, many capsules including several custom-designed ones, featuring different backplates, variations in gold thickness, and even some crafted with platinum. After about a year of making my first version of the Serrano 87, in 2021 I was able to source a vintage U87 in immaculate condition and further tweaked the Serrano Vintage 87 to match it. It was at this point that I spent a lot of time with Guosheng's K87 and I honestly cannot say that his K87 is any lesser in quality than a genuine Neumann K87. My thinking is that they are within 95-99% of the same tonality and 100% of the same sound quality. Some may disagree with this perspective, but I would wonder if their viewpoint is shaped more by theoretical insights from other experts rather than by extensive hands-on experience with both capsules. There's no doubt that the Neumann K87 capsule is of exceptional quality, but I’ve found that it’s not the only option at that level.

Do you know approximately when you switched from your original capsule to the 3U? (I'm wondering which one I have since mine is from around November 2021.)
