Just got one of these.
They definitely aren't subtle, when it's on you know it.
I did a little test and tracked everything through it. not trying to get it to distort at all, just put it at the end of the chain and see what it does.
It definitely smooths some transients and tames annoying high mids.
It does not sound good at all when distorted, though as Brad said it's not supposed to. At least it's not the kind of saturation I'm into, YMMV.
I'm going to have to do a true A/B at some point with a splitter but for now I just wanted to put it on and see how it sounds.
Here's my little test, no eq or compression, just Mic / Preamp / TapeC / converters
