For those of you who have used the Kef’s, did you have the mki’s or the newer metas? I have an opportunity to grab the mki’s at a decent price and I kind of want to give them a shot. Mark 1’s are what I have spent the most time with & could live with any time.

Has anyone tired these? As hyperbolic as dude is(and he is), I'm seriously contemplating these...., the Coax phase thing is very appealing to me considering i do a lot of old school OTB mixing where I need to lean and roll around to adjust stuff, the cost comparison to the near identical amphion's is unreal even though the cost is still very VERY steep considering you might not like them and they will have virtually ZERO resale value OK first this is a Madisound kit, I have known and delt with them since the 1980’s lived 4miles away and worked less than a mile. Now some quick points. First 3 K for a kit you have never heard you can’t return is a bit much to take a flyer on. Tony you have the skills to do all the basic assembly. Other than looks these are very different from any Amphion although I think Amphion uses SEAS, this is a 3 way coax, personally not a fan of Aluminum Alloy drivers above 120HZ but that’s personal taste. One worry is that in a dual concentric the cone acts like a horn or wave guide, Aluminum cones are stiff but have all kinds of HF resonances, not a big deal for a standard mid or woofer, but when you use it for HF pattern control your going to use lots of DSP to reduce these. Not a Hypex fan, but Amps I like DSP and conversion would triple the price. Here was the deal breaker for me, These are not cheap drivers, but I can’t find a reference to a replacement diaphragm or recone kit for either! Look in DIY playing around with crossovers I’m going to fry a tweeter & maybe a mid, rather not pay $500 for a new driver ( this is why the TAD’s use a copy of the TAD crossover, take a look at TAD 4002 BE diaphragms.

Conclusion! After a rabbit hole ride I came full circle and ordered a couple of Neumann KH 120 II and a MA 1 measuring and correction device. In the end, what ultimately made make a decision were the measurements found at www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/neumann-kh120-ii-monitor-review.46362/ Comparing it to my other candidates, I feel like this is the safest choice for me now. Thank you all for bringing your experience and opinions, here and in the HEDD thread!

I have a former student with a set of Neumann monitors and they sound quite nice. I'm happy to share when I can.
