yeah, sounds a bit similar to what Steven Slate is doing with VSX. stevenslateaudio.com/en/vsxVSX is maybe a little more refined since it uses a specific set of headphones (instead of trying to work with everything on the planet?). Then they also model actual studios/mixing rooms (and a few other rooms, headphones, and cars, etc.). Of course it's more expensive too ($299-$499). I've found VSX pretty useful, especially when trying to sort out some low end issues that were not readily apparent on my monitors (in my room). The downside is that Slate is always promising "more" and users are always waiting around wondering "when"? I've had the platinum version for at least 1.5 years now and I think I saw one new room (and to me it sounded a bit weird so I have not used that one much). Still not as bad as the wait for FG-X2, which was at least 5 years. I gave up and then one day it appeared lol (of course that product is part of Slate Digital, which is now part of Audiotonix so SS doesn't really have anything to do with it anymore -- he sold it a couple years ago).

Thanks, but I do love what I'm getting from the Neumann NDH 30 already. Feels unwise to switch from that.
Any good alternatives besides Slate?

Depends what headphones you're mixing on. The coloration from your interface is another biggie. For whatever reason, whatever I do on the Aurora N with K701s translates. No need for VSX. VSX also doesn't compensate for things that are inaccurate about your interface. Aurora N has a 0 headphone impedance. Some of these others are at 30, 50, or higher. If you want to know about headphones and sources, lookup nwavguy.

Waves Nx (the original) does something similar to this, and you can adjust the various placement and monitor size if I remember correctly. It’s intended for head tracking but you can use it in static mode. You do need to do the head measurements though.
It’s different from the later versions built from IRs and modeling of specific mix rooms and their monitors.

and of course all of them are sorcery, so if you have an excellent treated room and excellent monitors, you should not need any of them. I have a pretty good room and monitors, but certainly not "world class", so the VSX option was one that worked for me and was in the affordable range. As mentioned, all of them can be subject to variances -- even the VSX headphones don't fit everyone's head the same. No headphones do. VSX does have some options to tune a few settings , but if you start doing that, then you again need something to reference it against and that is a deep rabbit hole.
