At my in-laws and was bored and the only one awake the other night. Figured I'd try to make a drink just by winging it. Boom, bourbon and Amaro. Tasted kind of like an old fashioned to me.
Looked it up, I guess it's called a Black Manhattan. I don't know. Anyway, takes about two seconds to make and gets 90% of the taste of an Old Fashioned. Now if you really want that analog taste, you're gonna need to do the work. But does it really matter?

I do that all the time. Which amaro did you use?
Fancy it up with some walnut bitters if you can find them!

I've been making Penicillins lately. I've always liked them, but hadn't made them at home until recently. Gotta make the honey ginger syrup ahead, but it's fun and easy (and delicious). Famous Grouse for the blended and Laphroaig for the topper. I really love these up at the cabin, for sipping by the fire, inside or out. Also been making Paper Planes, with Woodford for the bourbon and Nonino and Aperol for the amaros. Felt like a good summer -> fall transitory drink this year. We spent some time in Italy this summer, so that season was full of Aperol Spritz and wine. I also really like just amaro and bourbon mixed. Usually Ramazzotti and whatever bourbon I have around. No measuring, just a little splash splash and enjoy.
