I've been asked a few times if I had a strat or tele in the studio, and I don't. I figure if there are about a million various copies/clones out there so therefor there should be a few decent ones for cheap.
I don't know jack about strats or teles at all. I do know that there are a few Les Paul copies that are better than their epiphone brothers. I figure there has to be the same for strats and teles.

Check out Agile guitars at Rondo music. The lower line ones are decent, but apparently once you get into the middle lines, they surpass the epiphones in quality.

Just bought me a thinline from www.nyguitars.coYou will never play a better Fender. I got it on Friday and it's honestly the best guitar I've ever played in my life.

Those do look good, however it'll be more for utilitarian studio use rather than being used by any type of professional artist. I'd prefer a guitar to be in the 200ish$ range.

Oh man than grab those low end Agiles! They look damn cool and maybe when I'm done paying for my thinline I'll grab a few from there.

Cool, I might. I get a few folks who are always like "I wonder what a strat and/or tele would sound like instead" and I don't have any. It wouldn't replace a nice guitar a player might bring but it'd make trying out sounds easier I think.

Of course there are. Nash builds better than Fender stock...if you look on Corner Music's website, they had a company who handbuilt clones that were stunning.
$2-4k.
Now, if the reason you don't want to just buy a Fender price...no idea. Fender has remade its American standard and vintage line over the last few years and made them pretty bulletproof. If you want cheaper, you buy a mExiFender. Sort of what the AmStd was prior to the remakes. Still good axes.

Nash doesn't quite fit the bill.

Definitely check out the Squier Classic Vibe Series. I love mine...Sure, swapping out the pickups will certainly make it sound even better, but the stocks are surprisingly good.

....sorry, guys--I didn't see the cheaper thing. My bad.
I haven't been in the budget guitar market in a long time. I did play my buddy's new Mexi Strat....and it was a relatively nice axe for the what $450 or so he paid for it. But...they've always just been less consistent....if you're not a discerning guitar player--TAKE ONE WITH YOU...let THEM tell you the best one. You can blindly buy the American series (post 08 remodels) and know it's a good axe. That is NOT the case with their lower lines.
You want it shielded. PUs are replaceable--BUT...they also are not the sound of a guitar. Put your ear to the horn of a strat....strum a chord unplugged. Play around. Hot spots are odd resonances in the build...and the basic balance is in the wood. GOOD PUs you just hear the wood and the fingers.
Apologies again for misreading.

No problems Popmann.
I've had a few guitar players mention the squier "classic Vibe" stuff and said it was probably my best bet for price and performance. A few online have mentioned a few other no-name options as well.
I'll keep looking and report what I find.

Gotta love fakes. Have you gotten anything from them? I wonder how those Les Pauls are for 2 hundo. I wouldn't mind grabbing one of those and popping a decent set of pickups in.

I dunno, I looked up the name and a number of guitar forum members claim that it's a scam, they sent money and nothing.

I work with a guy who bought a Rick from them, he's going to bring it in.
I bought a nyguitars.co a month back and I don't regret it but I wouldn't be opposed to picking up the same thing from them for stage/jam and just to have lots of them to impress clients haha. If you consider a Funk Logic space is 90 bucks these are perfect for that.

Plus 1 on the Squier Classic Vibe Series. I found a great used CV Tele, put a Rutters Bridge and a set of Nocaster PUPs in it and just love it. Great platform for some mods. Actually though it was perfectly workable with out any changes stock. Very surprising for an import guitar at that price level. Frets were very well done and after a few small tweaks to the neck/action it was near perfect for me.

I tried a Classic Vibe Tele today and was impressed. I was trying to remember if this was the series you were talking about in the store but the brain cells wouldn't fire! The Tele felt nice and the construction looked good, had binding on the body which was nice. I'm going to go back and try her out tomorrow.

Here's what I did to my CVC Tele w/Rutters Bridge and a set of Nocasters. Not that it needed much of anything to begin with but I never seem to be able to leave anything well enough alone.

Well I just got back from checking out the CVC teles and couldn't find a good one. They won't stay in tune and sound like shit, not a winning combo!LOL The Mexi teles were a step up and sounded better. I think I've entered Tele search mode...

Yeah, I'm kinda back to the whole tele or strat mode after veering into Les Paul territory for a while. Not sure which I should go for.

I have my strat bases covered with a lovely Godin Progression but I still need that tele thang. I'm seriously considering ordering one of these straight from the shop. www.godinguitars.com/godinsessioncustomp.htm . Last two guits I ordered from them were excellent.
