I posted pics about this eq but just look at that beauty. This gets used. Tracking, stereo bus, etc... Transistor wizardry. Also just a nicely laid out build that makes you think, has a riddle or two (its 1/2 the reason I build stuff) and looks bad ass when its done. A Wima city.

About how much is the total build?

Hard to say. Three grayhills, two doa's, api style output xfmr, pots, and a bunch of caps. Then frontpanel and knobs. Good stuff cost a bit more A few hundy's.

First all I should say that I have designed my eq to use several DOA's in the market so there is a wide choice of them, so the total price change for the DOA's that have to be used too. Same thing for the out transformer. You can use (if the DOA on the out stage can drive it) many ones in the market so the total price change depending its cost, a good one is the CAPI EA2503-L, is a not expensive one that sounds very good. Another ones are the Cinemag CMOQ2S and the CMOQ2L.
Regarding the chassis the APP540 cannot use the L-brachet so the total price can be reduced. BTW for the front panel I am thinking to a front panel that's a 2 mm thick dual layer PCB, cheap and nice. Moreover, to the classic one in machined aluminium, black with white labels. Actually I have not them but I have the FDP file to order the ones you need to Front Panel Express.
Since the most expensive items are available at CAPI, part of total price may be the following
3x Grayhill rotaly switches = 3x 17.45 USD = 52.35 USD
3X plastic 10k linear pots = 3x Bourns 51CEN-D20-E15L = 3x 10.60 USD = 31.8 USD Please note that can be used also the classic Alpha taiwan so the total price of them is in range 6-12 USD
1x out transformer CAPI EA2503 = 36 USD
6x knobs. May be used the CAPI ones, I say may since I have not yet tested them on it but I think that they may be used without big problems. Are very fine the ones that Rocinante used for his own built APP540's but I don't know their price, just ask him. However, I think that for 6x aluminium knobs of 13mm of diameter we are in range 20-25 USD.
3x panel switches, they are 7-8 USD
PCB's set = it's actually 25 USD for one pc and 22 USD per pc for more than one pc, so I consider 25 USD
2x DOA's = using two APP992 DOA's, two kits are 26.5 USD (actually)
Considering these main items the partial price of the eq kit it should be maybe around 200- 215 USD excluding VAT and S&H. (This price is just to have an idea and can be not corresponding to the reality)

Appetizing doesnt even begin to touch the full course entrée these eq's are. I use them on everything. I could use the common adjectives; warm, silky etc.. but really it doesnt do them enough justice. Mere words. These can be shape shifters with balls like king kong, or they can be used like a razor slicing the subtle scoops of chocolate frosting off the dark chocolate, chocolate chip cake. Regardless I cant say enough great things about them and they are a pleasure to build. Hi end all the way down to the last transistor.

I seen the post today so I apologize for the late replay. I have only two PCB's available now, however, I am waiting a new stock of these ones.

Yes, I send schematic and BOM by email (to reduce S&H costs) after sale. Thanks for the question. Cheers Pier Paolo

thx: have you done any sound comparisons using different Xformers ? No, the only transformer that has been used on app540 was the EA2503 and it sounds very fine on this eq. However, app540 can use several trasformers as for example the very good Cinemag CMOQ2S, CMOQ2L and H nickel version. The Cinemag ones should sound very fine inside it.

Here another assembled APP540 eq with impressions. groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=33576.msg899732#msg899732
On the several months that I had to assist my father, I put the APP540 aside so I have not bought a large stock of PCB's of it, but who bought the few PCB's of the little stock that I had stocked, seem to be happy with them.
