Circling back around to say that I finally finished my LA2A build, and it turned out great. Nice and quiet. No hum even dimed. Sounds great... Nice weight to the low-end and nice smooth compression. I will post a pic when I am on a PC. Martin really did a great job on this. Also a big hand to bowie for a great tube complement. . Curious what the total cost of the La-2a project was? I will see if I can tally that up. I bought parts over the course of a year.

I won't speak for anyone else, but I've built several P2P LA2As and the price varied a lot based on the components I chose. There's a wide price range, especially in transformers, tubes, caps, even cases. I got up to around $1,500 in materials on a few builds. Build them because you love the build process and want to craft a certain sound that you can't get from production builds, not because they're cheaper because, when you factor in time, you're not doing yourself any real favors.

If I didn't miss anything it was right around $1400 in parts. If you source original UTC iron you can add $800 to that

I'd say that obviously depends a lot on the choice of parts as well as where you're located. Building an LA2A with the parts suggested in the BOM living in Germany I'd say the cost in parts is around 800 - 900 Euros. That ain't with vintage UTC iron, but we've been working a lot with Sowter and their latest version of LA2A replacement transformers are amazing!! VERY close - like I'm not sure I could tell the difference in a blind test. Good tubes are a must though - NOS ones if possible! During my research I also found the readily available russian made Genalex Golden Lion very good too! I'm working on a complete kit for the Pultec EQP-1A project at the moment - respectively I have been working on it for the last year and it's a huge project. Especially since I want it to be as close to the original as possible - so several components have to be custom made in order to be available other than on the used market. If you followed me on analogvibes.com I also built some EQP-1As and MEQ-5s in the past and did endless tests with different caps, different filter coils comparing them to a vintage Pultec in my studio... ...just tested a custom made filter coil - made to original specs. Even potted in bees wax like the original Very promising so far! And we even got Switchcraft who was the manufacturer of the original bypass switch in the vintage units to do a reissue of the Pultec switch - even though it's been out of production for almost 20 years hehe! Just like last time I made some videos and e-papers on how the EQP-1A actually works and of course how to build one yourself...like this one: In that pic the output transformer was still missing but it shows the internal wiring pretty well - just like the real deal Anyway - i'll post the videos on here when I'm done - maybe they're helpful or interesting for you guys

I just saw this last night and wanted to say thanks for sharing! Those are some really helpful videos. The appearance and layout is great. The topic however seems like a tough one to explain and understand, it took a little bit for me to grasp where the video was heading. But then after reading the e-paper, I felt like I learned so much about how it works (more than I wanted to know honestly) that it gave me ideas on how I could possibly design things from scratch. So if you see this, know that your effort is appreciated.

So if you see this, know that your effort is appreciated. Thanks so much for the feedback!! I really appreciate it! A lot of work went into these e-papers and videos and I'm glad they're helpful! I'm sure you also saw the last video where I announced that Ben with BeesNeez Microphones teamed up with me and he'll make 100% faithful replicas of all the original Pultec EQP-1A transformers specifically for the kit! The Triad HS56, Triad HS29 and the Peerless S217-D. I'm super psyched! That means: technically identical, same dimensions, same footprint and even same pin-layout of the solder terminals. The last video of the series will be released tomorrow if everything goes as planned - along with another set of e-papers. One of them being a preview on the wiring layout and the other one shows every single part & component to be included with the kit.

In the meantime the preorders are open and so far the feedback has been incredible! We set a minimum of 30 kits preordered before we can make it happen due to minimum order quantities set by some manufacturers that do custom parts for the kit. That minimum goal was already within 48 hours after announcing the kit!! As mentioned earlier on this will a full kit with everything included to build a 100% faithful replica of the original Pultec EQP-1A. And we have many of the parts and components custom made following original specs like: - custom transformers - technically identical with the original Triads and Peerless and also pretty much identical in terms of look: same dimensions, same footprint, same pin layout etc. - custom pots modeled after the vintage Allen & Bradley pots used in vintage units (with the same modified log curve as the A&Bs) - custom made inductor following original specs - even potted in bees wax just like the original - custom rotary switches made by Blore-Edwards in the UK (supplier for NEVE) - custom filter caps made by German audiophile cap maker Mundorf - original Dakaware knobs - original Pultec bypass switch - reissue made by original supplier Switchcraft specifically for our kit - the FIRST 100 preorders will even include a VINTAGE Pultec bypass switch (as I found a NOS batch of 100 pcs.) That's just an excerpt - if you wanna know more, please check out my page by following the link (or simply click on the pic) analogvibes.com/byls/tube-program-equalizer-complete-kit/?mc_cid=cb977e478a&mc_eid=887906c2c3#vid3Let me know what you think - a lot work and love for detail went into it Martin P.S.: I know that has already been mentioned before as well, but of course a whole bunch of step by step guides and instructions is included as well

Hey folks, I just wanted to let you know that thanks to ongoing support and encouraging words of the analogvibes community - which also includes some of you guys, we are now able to announce the next chapter of "Build Your Legends Series". This time it's featuring a LIMITED edition SILVER FACE version of the Tube Opto Compressor as a FULL kit! It's an homage to and a faithful re-creation of the legendary SILVER FACE LA2A - modeled after a vintage unit from 1967 from a friend of mine: analogvibes.com/byls/tube-opto-compressor-complete-kit/As in the past I created a series of videos of which you can watch the first episode by following the link above the image... As with the other projects in the past, a lot of work went into this project and I would love to hear your feedback and thoughts! Thanks so much! Martin
