I think it must be Bob O's avatar. "You shall NOT pass! And Gandalf is THEE Rocky Marciano of Troll eliminators! Maybe I should use Chuck Norris's picture for mine... Chris

For the most part, nowadays, my Gearslutz pm replies are one word or less.

The problem "now" with Gearslutz and most forums is that there is very little to talk about anymore in regard to the music business, because it has been essentially decimated. The record companies release recordings from Youtube stars made in their bedrooms (Billy Eilish etc) so you don't and won't have long discussions about consoles, mics, etc. The times are a changing.

This has happened with every audio forum or newsgroup after it reached a certain size. I find I can avoid most of the BS by aggressively employing the ignore function. There is still stuff to be learned and it only takes a handful of people screw it up. It's the same reason popular artists need bodyguards. So true. The size of the community here is very comfortable and effective now. Everybody knows each other, pretty much, and the findings and discussions are very productive. Lots of good will here.

Oh, I get it...it would be nice to have enough members to buy me a 2019 4runner Limited, though...or a sandwich. Might be able to handle the sandwich. Lemme check my balance.

Not certain how those would go together. And unfortunately although I truly love shrimp they are also a major cause of my gout (all shellfish, dammitt!), so I have to avoid them except for very small amounts on very rare occasions.

Lots of nice knowledgeable people over at GS too. But is weighted down by some "not so nice" and/or less knowledgeable-who think they are. Then some high level members left (like Thrill Factor), or became much less active (like Fletcher). IMHO the peak period there was 10+ years ago. I was actually one of the first 100 members there (maybe within first 50). Now it's 100K plus.I bet John K. is right, but in my self admitted naivety, been not as aware of a lot of shilling there. In any event, this is a great place! Chris Fletcher left audio and now runs a bar. I hear he's happier.

The problem is that there are relatively few real recording engineers left. Most of the real pros went to PRW, some came here. A few did both.
