I'd appreciate if everyone could try and upload picture attachments to something like imgbb.com/Then you just copy the link and paste in the thread. Easy as that. I'm just finding people are willy nilly uploading pics as large as 3-4MB and it's killing my forum storage and inevitably costing me more money.

Click on the imgbb.com link, click "start uploading" and it requests whether you want to pull from the library or take a photo.

I'll go back and clear up my latest picture post with this in mind, no problem.

Thanks for pointing this out, Johnkenn . It's hard to know the best way to handle pics sometimes on various forums. Now we know the best way for RGO.

It’s no biggie. You guys don’t have to go back and change anything, just try and do it that way moving forward.

I've been using my Canon Camera at 640 x 480 to post pictures on this site, since the last time we were told about this.
The pictures use just kilobytes and still look good.

And if everybody could donate a minimum of $10 a year to help cover storage costs, that would be great! It's really easy to do. Paypal and credit card buttons on the bottom left of every page.
Gracia amigos y amigas!

The only bum thing about imgbb.com is you don't see the image in the post. I try to export pics as medium quality jpegs, so they're large enough to see detail, but never bigger data wise than 400kb.
I also can't/don't post images directly to RGO from a phone. Too bad the forum software doesn't deny huge data photos automatically. I think some sites do.
I can live with imgbb.com. I use this same software on my forum, but there's not much pictures uploaded there. Almost all YouTube links.

I use imgur.com but you have to "learn" how to use it. If you post a (private) photo, because it's some kind of social site, you can open the image in a new tab with a right click in windows/google chrome. THEN you have a URL that you can insert into RGO with the little picture icon thing.
I put almost no effort into resizing them for the forum so they are always fricking huge pictures, resolution wise. If I thought about it I would use IRFanView to resample/resize the photos for posting but I guess it's not that important so I'll probably keep posting oversized photos from Imgur. You could use IRFanView to get a pretty small size for a direct to RGO upload also, if you want to use johnkenn's data. Just pick a small resolution, and a very lossy compression for the JPG, it would be a small file.

As long as the file is hosted elsewhere, huge photos are a plus. You can zoom in and see details. I like looking at racks of gear, and closeups of pieces.

If everyone stayed around 200-400kb, it would be cool...but people are posting 3mb photos which are 3 times the size. I could limit attachment size to whatever I want...don’t remember what I have it at now, but maybe I’ll limit it to like 1mb.

True that is nice but one thing that sucks is when the links get broken and the photos are gone on a post. See this all the time on other forums and it's kind of a bummer. But totally understand that someone has to foot the bill for storage.

Just as a reminder - as I’ve had to go in and clean up a bunch of 5mb pictures stored on the forum - please use something like postimages.org to post pics. It’s super simple.

It's very easy for anyone to put their pictures on their computer (we're all using them) and reduce the size down from 4MB to 150kb without losing the point of the picture in most cases. Save at a lower resolution and upload those.

Yeah. That or I just use postimages.org. Then select “resize my pic for message board”. Copy and paste.

if you are trying to link to a Google image that you already shared and wondering why it does not work, then click the "BBcode" button and replace the URL with: lh3.google.com/u/0/d/<image id> where < image id> is that really long string that is unique to each photo your original code probably looks like: drive.google.com/file/d/<image id>
