Hey guys! Here is the next installment of my YouTube series where I remake a famous record that I love and then discuss how I did it and what I learned in the process! This one is actually featuring my sister on lead vocals. Would love to know what some of you guys think!

Dood. That is so freaking fun. Seriously, you’re really making me want to do this too - in fact I’ve got a text out to my buddy about it)…
So - I know a few guys that played on that record. Would you be ok if I shared this on FB (a link to here because “always be closing”) and tag a couple of those guys? They’d totally dig it.
And btw - awesome job again! I thoroughly enjoy watching these. So keep em coming.

I haven't even watched the video yet but liked the post anyways because I love that song.❤️ That album might be the *Thriller* of late 90s country music.

Interesting! It's like the record without that 1997 mastering. To explain: I was in my early teens during 97-99 and quite a few of the hits from that era are lodged in my memory. When I went back and evaluated a selection of them based on sonics a few years ago, that era is almost overwhelmingly dominated by what sounds like heavy digital limiting [or soft clipping] and emphasis around 3k to pop out from TVs, cheap headphones, and car stereos of the time. This sounds much nicer

That’s actually a great description…It was the Thriller of Country Music. (Hank just turned a somersault) I just remember "Love Gets Me Every Time" coming out on country radio and sounding *very* country, and then hearing "You're Still the One" forever on pop radio in 98, and then wondering, "How are they still pulling singles from this?" in late 99.

I is not smart when it comes to the ‘tronics, but won’t there be some impedance/phase blah blah tronicky-talk bad things that will happen with that Y cable at around 12:00?

I is not smart when it comes to the ‘tronics, but won’t there be some impedance/phase blah blah tronicky-talk bad things that will happen with that Y cable at around 12:00? So i have thought about this and like you, I'm not really an expert on the electronics knowledge either. All I know is that it sounds good to me so I'm just rolling with it. But it could depend a lot on the mics and preamp you use. I'm using 57's here and the engineer who I got this off of (Paul Moak) was using 421's. Now here are my thoughts on the loading. I'm using a CAPI 312 which has a 1200 ohms input impedance and have you by chance experimented with the 600 ohm mod for SM57's? Basically, you wire a 600 ohm resistor to pins 2 and 3 of the connector on the mic end of an XLR cable, which loads the SM57 with 600 ohms because according to the sound on sound article where I originally learned about this, the SM57 was originally designed to see a 600 ohm load. Now, in the sound comparisons I've done, what I notice is slightly dampened and smoother high frequency response and a little more richness in the low end when using the 600 ohm modded connector, which is especially nice for electric guitars. So my theory is that, connecting two SM57's to a preamp with a 1200 ohm impedance would essentially be like loading both capsules with a 600 ohm load. Now, I could be wrong there with my math and I welcome any corrections because I definitely enjoy learning the technical aspects of engineering as much as I can. And you may get more mileage out of a preamp with higher input impedance, like 10k or something. But at the same time, like I said, I think it sounds great so I'm not too worried about it. And also I wouldn't be quick to connect two microphones to a single preamp with a Y cable for any more critical sources like vocals, etc. But for toms, it seems to work well and sounds great to my ears.

I love the details on this cover. All the guitar overdubs, the drum tuning, the vocal layers. Tons of small decisions adding up to a great final product. You scienced the s**t out of it.

Well done.
Do you have any original music to post?
