I’ve compared the sound skulptor and the AML 1073 preamps.... both really good, but slightly preferred the AML. It had a bit more sparkle. Both top notch builds....

Sound Skulptor does a similar thing with their 1073 preamp and eq (500 series) We have a pair of the Sound Skulptor EQ573's which are the EQ's and look quite similar to the AML's but the SS's do have quite a few additonal frequency points.
We don't have the matching SS micpre's which can also be linked to the EQ's via a header.
As a stand-alone EQ I find their top-end somewhat on the hard side.
The top-end may improve when used with the pre as the EQ is inserted between the input and output transformers in the micpre.

Don Classics NV73 also has the EQ add on option. But it makes it a 2 space unit, since you change the face plate out.

Probably a stupid question, but is it necessary to have their 1073 preamp alongside it to function properly? I'd love to build a pair to go with my Coppers.

Are you sure ? I can't see any traces for audio IN and OUT going to the 500 series connector on the EQ itself.

Hmm I see what you mean. In that case no I'm not sure haha I'm sure a quick email to aml will solve the mystery though

Colin also has a 1073EQ module that can be used stand alone, but it is not available as a kit though.
