LOL. 98% of apps were useless.. Now lets make that 99%..
But in all seriousness, I'd say more than half of the stuff i learned on the internet about micing stuff, I had to unlearn while figuring out how to do it properly on my own.

My great uncle was Mike Mancini was the manager for Duke Ellington Orchestra. I remember before he died, he would tell me all these stories, about life on the road with the band, people he met, working with just about every big name there was, all this crazy stuff, it was what started my life in music. He owned a little music store across the street from the local highschool in the town I grew up in his late years, everyday after school I would go over and help clean up, lift things for him whatever he needed, but we would always sit and talk for a few hours everyday about music. There was one time, I don't know why I remember this, but he was talking about this engineer, named Al, and he would talk about how Al would scramble around the Orchestra moving things... putting his ear right beside horned instruments, and he said when they would go into the control room after he'd done all this the sound that came out when the orchestra played sounded like you were sitting in a theater listening to a movie score. Sometimes, I honestly think that some parts of this business simply can't be taught or emulated, some of it is just being able to process all those different placements in your mind kind of like an arranger does with instruments in a score. IMO I don't believe there will ever be another Al or an app to do the things he could do. Sorry for the ramble, but I just remembered that story and at the time I had no idea who the heck Al Schmitt was, and I just remembered that little story. What was crazy, Uncle Mike had shelves from the floor to the ceiling filled with these extremely old Saxophones, trumpets, violins, guitar amps, guitars, you name it, if it was in that room you better believe it's age wasn't above the 70's. No one had any idea that was all in there but me...... I came really close to getting an old Fender Bassman from him once, but he told me I was too young to own an amp like that

Oh come on guys, it looks kinda neat. I don't like relying on idevices in the studio though. I learnt this from the Cubase app on my phone that hasn't worked in god knows how long.

Well, yes, we need robotized mic stands, so you just have to take a photo of the drum set with an iphone and the app does the rest via wlan ... just mention "uses proprietary AI algorithms" and "10 yrs. of development" in the ads. Nice idea, right? I am sure, they would buy it all, over there... just make a 25k price tag on it. Somehow reminds me of self-tuning guitars...but we got them already, right? Hrmpf....................

Watching the video, I couldn't figure out what was happening most of the time.
I would get personally entertained by an app that was a mic database. One that has basic info and pictures on a huge selection of mics. Just simple background and history on mics, with charts to compare. Also would be cool if there were little anecdotes on famous tracks a particular mic was used on. But mostly for personal entertainment and music nerd trivia.
But also it could come in handy when coming across an old relic at a garage sale or online. Just get some instant back ground on a mic to see if it's worth taking a risk to spontaneously grab it.
I suppose I'd still just google the make & model # anyways. Either way, it'd be fun.
There's a microphone database website kicking around that I enjoy perusing. I just wish they had even more mics on there.

...Also, practically speaking, shouldn't this be for google glasses? I need both my hands to position some of them heavy mic/stand combos! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Maybe there can be an app like this for performers too, so they don't have to learn proper mic technique. That wouldn't be distracting at all.
