I personally find this far more annoying than OLD TOWN ROAD, which seemed like a one off just for fun kind of track. This song here however is a bunch of kids who are dead serious that this is Country Music. Why is the guy even holding a guitar or wearing a cowboy hat?

I think the question is how is this any different from just pop music?
Like why do they call it country? At least when Taylor Swift did it she knew she was leaving country. Now it seems she could have called anything she's done Country haha

My guess is that, since only young people buy music, they are hoping that 13-17 year old kids in the car with their parents listening to the country music channel will hear this and ask them to buy it for them. Old Town Road was a much better song, due to to its better, easily singable chorus. Country claimed it, reluctantly, but it uses "country" images more as a metaphor than the rest of country music, which presents "country" as a lifestyle to its listeners.

I just puked a little bit in my mouth. You don't keep a paper bag near your desk?

Old Town Road was much more overtly hip hop. This is just twang-pop. Hey, it’s got a pedal steel in the background and the male singer has a southern accent. That makes it country, right?

OTR was a kid having fun and having a laugh. This is serious.

How are people compressing stuff this much? Is it like some kind of brickwall limiter on the vocal or something? I actually had a track sent to me looking for this kind of vocal vibe.
