If by “thermal thing” you mean VTS (torrefaction) then count me as a convert too. I’ve written before about how off guard I was taken by the HD-28 VTS (that I ended up taking home). I didn’t even know what VTS or torrefaction was when I picked it up and was like “holy shit, what is going on with this HD-28??? This is amazing” Been my main guitar for a couple years now and I’m daily just floored by it.

8K$? That thing'd haunt my days too if I spend 8K on a guitar.

I finally broke down and got a good quality acoustic last fall. I had only played mid level ones. Even though I have had some great ones they all had issues: D18 w/ cracks, J45 w/ terrible neck etc. I was going to spend the spendy and go full the full monty, but I shopped smart and got a used 2017 D28 at a small local shop. I traded a Ovation toward it and only spent $1300! What I wanted to say here though is that since then I have been playing like 3+ hours a day and I'm at a point where that D28 is sounding better and better the more I play (practice). More to the point..
Regards dropping big money on music gear: Given 3 things: $$ AG $$ MIC $$ Guitarist At this point, I would still pick the $$ Mic and Guitarist. I have just seen too too too many times a POS out of tune dust covered acoustic guitar that was never loved by anyone sound like a full blown symphony in the hands of a great guitarist.
