Anyone have thoughts on these? The deluxe version.
Should I save up the extra grand and buy the Heiserman?

I haven't heard the TAB kit, but have been loving the H47T!

I've built clones of all the tube mikes. Sourcing parts is time consuming and expensive. If you can build the TAB mic it looks like a great parts kit and should should sound the same.

I am happy with my TAB u-47 kit, but it is not something I'd recommend to beginners or the faint of heart - it is essentially just parts and a schematic. I have no experience with the Heiserman mics.

I don't have the whole kit, but I do have the TAB transformer in my U47 clone. Sounds pretty good. Had a mic tech comment on how much more it sounded like an authentic U47 than other clones.

Well I purchased the prebuilt unit that was up on Reverb. We will see... I can now see me going down the capsule rabbit hole!

I've not had a mic with a Red, but the red is supposedly made the same as the M9 capsule (mylar plastic instead of PVC in the M7) and I have some Gefell mics with M9 capsules but they're not tube mics. They're a bit brighter than the M7 capsules and a little cleaner although as far as I know the backplates are the same so it's probably all down to the fact that mylar is a little less "stretchy" than PVC and modern mylar is far more consistently flat than PVC sheet. What I don't hear with the mics that have the M9's is the midrange sheen that the M7/U47 has. Not sure how much of that is the capsule though.

Cat 5 (Shane) had built the mk-u47 with both the red and blue. I recall him characterizing, as svart suggested the blue , much more the traditional 47 sound, the red a more modern sound ?

Thanks... Maybe that's why they were selling it.
I have a TG for a modern comparison, so if it's not different enough I will swap the capsule.

So... Unfortunately the mic was not as perfect as I hoped. Apparently the seller botched the built and had Chris over at Barbaric repair and test it. The builder made a critical error and did not protect the capsule while soldering, so the Thiersch Red line has 4 flux blobs on it. Trying to work it out... Seller has been good, but not too forthcoming with all the info behind the build.
Note to self... Get pictures of the capsule on diy builds!
