Oh no: Pot Luck ConAnd it's apparently not too late to register, and this gathering is a mere 100 miles from my place. I'm not sure I will be able to maintain.

i hope some one takes some pics! If I can arrange the trip, I most certainly will! It's actually a scarey proposition, because at trade shows like this, I generally demonstrate a complete lack of fiscal restraint. And self-control.

LOL I am at the moment battling with a complete lack of fiscal restraint.

Why always in AZ in the middle of the summer?
Even Comic Con is smart enough to do a mid summer convention in San Diego. After all, that's where most Zonie's are located right now.

Why always in AZ in the middle of the summer? A reflection of a capacity for self-abuse, perhaps? But I don't know any audio engineers who exhibit this trait. Anyway, it's lovely here in August: 110 F afternoons, raging desert thunderstorms in the evening. It's Paradise. I am booked and will submit pics/reports as the festivities proceed. I hope I can get away from the vendors without blowing up my CC too much.

Thanks be to the Higher Power/Deity to whom I pray, I am far FAR away from AZ. I'd be a dead man.

Thanks be to the Higher Power/Deity to whom I pray, I am far FAR away from AZ. I'd be a dead man. I've served 39 years in the desert southwest, and it's not that bad. You grow to love the heat, you really do. And the summer weather is, er, spectacular at times. And this part of the world is perfect for one of my other obsessions, astronomy. We have 300+ clear nights every year and transparent dark skies 90 minutes away, out in the pristine desert. Think Lawrence of Arabia with a 3 million + metropolis plopped down in the middle.

I love our southwest deserts, but wait until October before I venture back out there. You get 'conditioned' to the 72 degree lifestyle here in San Diego. I would melt out there now. Lots of amateur astronomers are found just east of here up on top of Palamar mountain, next to the "big boys" with the 200" telescope.
Why not Tape Op Con in May or something?

Agreed, scheduling it in Winter makes more sense. But booking a resort during good weather costs 3x the Summer rate. That must be it. I know some people who spend big $$ putting up remote, automated observatories like the ones on Palomar (and elsewhere in Cali and AZ). I looked into it and the buy-in for a bad-ass telescope/mount/camera + support equipment tops $50K, easy. Imaging honchos can have over $100K invested. It's a very serious avocation.

Just noticed that GS is a "Media Sponsor".
Does anyone have a "special message" that they would like conveyed to the GS reps? I would be happy to deliver them.
Or maybe not. Wouldn't want to get banned from the convention.

Back from the Pot Luck conference and will post pics later. I'd never thought I would ever say this, but I OD-ed on gear: looking, touching, listening, it was crazy. Luckily, the negative effects wore off quickly.

From the conference, high-quality cell phone pictures. In no particular order: Cathedral Pipes Notre Dame. Most likely my first U47-type mic. The white LED is definitely OG. Attachment DeletedDangerous and Manley. The MicMaid is the perfect thing for the busy (lazy?) engineer. Lets you hook up four mics and four pres and then mix/match them, with gain structures for each combo stored in the config. Nice. Attachment DeletedInnards of some well-known TF mics. Tubes rule, in every way Attachment Deleted
