Even though I dropped 100 on whiskey yesterday, probably do the same again today or tomorrow. Get some of that Basil Hayden (spelling?) dark rye whiskey. Maybe get a bottle of Dickel's rye to compare it to as well.
I'll report back.

Picked up a bottle of Bulliet today. A decent enough every day sipper. My local store doesn’t have much selection though so I take what I can get. I’m actually not a big fan of Maker’s. I’m probably in the minority on that.
Cheers, Geoff

And maybe some absinthe. Dangerous stuff that. Cheers, Geoff

There was a rye called Ri at one of my stores. I tried it and it was good although very dry. It needed a little water and to breath a few minutes for the flavor to open up.
Also, Woodford Reserve is a fine drink for not much money.

I bought some Buffalo Trace last night...it's a really good spicy one...but man, I could drink half a bottle of the Basil Hayden Dark Rye without knowing it.

Don't know if you can find many bottles outside of Utah, but look for Sugarhouse Rye. This whisky's claim to fame is the use of malted rye in the finish. As a result it's got a little bit of fruitiness to it. One of my favorite ryes.

Johnkenn, we were almost neighbors last year. But although that didn't come to pass (yet) we drank the same tonight albeit in different quantites for me. Two shots (or was it 3) of Buffalo Trace with a 1/2 and 1/2 BH Dark Rye and Coke-Life. Smooth as silk and the finish is beautiful an hour later.

Also the Knob Creek rye is excellent for a little more cash. If you find it, Rabbit Hole Rye is one of my favorites, but not what I would consider 'cheap'

There are several really good $25 bourbons/ryes. This, Larceny and the old standby Bulliet.

Perhaps Im spoiled in Cincinnati- I technically live in Northern Kentucky and prices here seem lower. Just bought the Old Forester Rye for $19.

A Couple of cheaper things I’ve tried and liked…there’s a Nulu Straight Whiskey that was just great. It’s a store pick so I don’t know how much that had to do with it…but I’m noticing that with barrel proof or cask strength, there’s less of a separation of quality between them in comparison to the allocated in-obtaniums.
Blue Note Uncut has been a huge value too. $45 and a ton of flavor.

I may have posted this before, but Ezra Brooks single barrels can be excellent. Even EB99 is solid.

the end of dry month draweth nigh, and I shall go bourbon shopping!
Ezra Brooks you say? I may just grab a 5th of that. Along with a bottle of Elijah Craig's finest . . .

Ezra Brooks 90 is a good mixer for sure. I drink it neat and its pleasant enough, a little heat and an earthy character which is nice sometimes. At least the batches Ive tried the last few months... And if its in your state, Early Times Bottled in Bond is a steal. 25 bucks a liter. Aged stated, 100 proof. Quite tasty.

Johnkenn - With your love for higher proof stuff. Have we discussed Elijah Craigh Barrel Proof, or Wild Turkey Rare Breed? For a cheaper bottle, Old Grandad 117 is solid, if you like higher rye mashbills.

That's a great cheaper bottle for sure. jsteiger had the Rare Breed and didn't really care for it I don't think. I've always been confused because there are several different versions of it, right?

I've kind've been getting back into mixed drink mode as I've gotten really tired of paying $275 for Weller Full Proof lol.

Every release is different of the EC, but many are probably worth it at least once. Whoops yes I meant OGD 114! Rare Breed is the same way, some batches are better than others depening on your taste.
