Love his 1/2 bends, slow vibrato and grace notes. And tone? Amazing.

Used to see Robben often at the Ice House in Pasadena. Back in the day when he released his first album. Even then, amazing.....

Robben Ford is awesome. His 1998 album "Talk To Your Daughter" is now streaming on Spotify and Apple Music. It's astounding. I've seen him a couple times live, it's like going to church.

I noticed that. It sounds really good. What really surprised me was the Epiphone guitar with single coil pickups.

I assumed it was a zen pedal or something...but it’s that epi. Is that a Casino? His tones are just unbelievable.

Really fun to watch him work. Like most guitar players, he plays better standing up!
We had him in for a clinic where I worked probably around the time of Talk To Your Daughter. He was great. It was an afternoon thing, and then he played at the university. His rhythm section (including Gary Novak on drums) was finishing up a tour with him and they going out with Alanis.

No, that's not a Casino. Casino's have those metal pickups that look like someone made them in high school shop class. Not sure which model that is, but it looks like today's Sheraton II's, but with single coils instead of humbuckers.
It's such an interesting and distinctive tone.

Maybe he says something in the video, I didn’t watch the whole thing... But don’t those look like mini humbuckers? Reading up on it now, Wikipedia says Epiphone invented the mini, although I have only ever seen them in certain Gibson’s personally (which doesn’t mean much). Guitar appears to be an Epiphone Riviera. www.premierguitar.com/articles/Interview_Robben_Ford_One_Guitar_One_Pickup_One_AlbumFrom vintageguitar.com: “ The pickups are humbuckers, but in order to keep the Epiphone line slightly below Gibson in status and sound, Epiphone humbuckers were slightly smaller. Consequently, they’ve become known as mini-humbuckers. Although they’re not as desirable as the full-size versions, Gibson did think enough of them to make them standard equipment on the original Gibson Firebird line and Les Paul Deluxe model.“

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Mini humbuckers.

Don't know why said "single coil", I knew they were mini-humbuckers, much like the Firebird.

Anybody know what pedalboard he's plugged into? Don, he covers his gigging pedal board on his instagram account if you're interested. Can't say whether it's used for recording or not.

Robben is plugged into something in that video, but can't make out what. His Epiphone has mini-humbuckers like my Les Paul Deluxe from the day. Attachment Deleted
