I have two of these, a head and a combo. And 22 spare modules. Might be the greatest guitar amplifier ever built. The tonal possibilities are endless. 5 distinct preamp module slots. Mix and match modules, cascade gain, hairy clean, IC clean, SS Fet modules etc. Just had both of mind serviced, bad caps replaced etc. No bad tubes, nearly 40 years old. Technological leader, decades ahead of its time. Anyone else have them, use them love them?

We had one of those when I was at Don Wehr's back in the '80s. Great amp and quite revolutionary at the time. Or now, for that matter.

I owned two heads and a bunch of modules back in the '80s. I was friends with the SD regional sales rep and he hooked me up with every module available, it was a beautiful thing. Went back to Marshall after a while though when a '69 100 watt crossed my path. Now there's an amp I wish I still had!

Did you have the 'Melting Marshall' and the 'AC30' modules? Seymour told me that they made some, but very very low numbers.

I had the AC30 but not the Melting Marshall- my SD rep must have not known about it. Bummer, I think I would have loved to try one! But the truth is, I settled on a subset of them (which I don't exactly remember) and sat on one channel most of the time. It's a great amp and a groundbreaking design.

I would pay a premium for the AC30 module!!

I played one at Hanover Strings in Hanover, NH back in 1987 when they got it in. As of last year, they still have it - NOS, if you will...
Ward, clearly you need a 3rd so you can have stereo Convertible combos...

How finicky did you guys find the plug-in module contacts to be? The thing I always heard, and was true of the one I encountered, you had to keep some contact cleaner on standby and somewhat frequently clean contacts and re-seat the modules.

I played one back in the day and wasn’t that impressed. Maybe needed some more time with it. Wonder what I’d think today.
Cheers, Geoff

Hanover strings has a special place as a music store for me, as Charlie the owner (now passed) was a great, patient guy who carried a great selection of guitars, amps, pedals and keyboards back in the mid-80s. He upgraded my 85 Squier Tele neck pickup which was microphonic to a Duncan Hot Rails Strat neck; I bought my Ibanez SC10 Stereo Chorus from him, numerous string sets, and was just a great place to hang out and try gear.

I always checked the seating on mine prior to use. I never had an issue but I did not swap modules out very much.

There are worlds of amp tones available from swapping out modules! i have 22 spare modules. It's insane. And yes, always use contact cleaner. And store them in individual sealed containers.
