What do all three have in common?why the admiration for navy grogs and rum of course!!! Thought you’d guys enjoy this little excerpt from this magnificent cocktail tiki book , smugglers cove - not explained in this shot-but well documented in another tiki book I own... the alternative honey syrup O.G don beachcomber recipe was Sinatra’s favorite(mine too over the trader vics version) Both are great, so check em out!! And boy- that Phil Spector story in the last paragraph!!!! To really enjoy smoke a little weed too haha “And then there was record producer Phil Spector the night he killed Lana Clarkson he went on a bit of a bender. one of the stops on his booze tour with his regular haunt - trader VICS Beverly Hills where he ordered not one but two navy Grogs. trader VICS bartender Ming Fong Chu would later be called to testify at the murder trial as to the potency of the drink. he confirmed that yes each navy grog contains three shots of rum and was one of the strongest drinks Vics served” here’s the link for the recipe and Nixon story for those that wanna read and try out the cocktail!! It’s verrry good!! ibb.co/p1VQGrBMy favorite rum combo is- 1 oz Appleton estate 12 year .5 oz plantation xayamaxca overproof .5 smith and cross overproof rum 1 ok el dorarado 12 year Best enjoyed shooting out studio ceilings or crooning wives with your pistol... or for rambling presidential secrets to your bartender.

Navy Grog is great if I’m in a Tiki sort of mood in the summer.
My favorite Rum drink is the Pain Killer though!
1 part orange juice 1 part cream de coco 4 parts pineapple juice Mix it up, pour over ice with as much rum as you desire (Pussers Rum is the “classic” one to use)
I usually make up a giant jug of this stuff at summer parties and it always goes over well
Pro tip - that cream de coco will sort of separate in the can and have a thick layer on top. You gotta dump the entire contents out and mix it up in a bowl with a wire wisk of sorts or it won’t turn out right!

I’m a BIG rum advocate. Trickier to find really good ones in the US- but if you’re a bourbon lover keep an eye out for Grander (12 year especially). Don Q 7 or Grand Anejo. Most people think of super sweet lame rums like well Bacardi.
