This is an interesting subject for me. One I don't talk about a lot but I'll open up. I developed a degenerative condition in my cervical spine (neck) almost 3 years ago and it changed a lot of things for me. Several times a day, I am pretty much forced to take breaks and not only rest my neck, but de-stress my mind because stress tension is one of the worst things for my condition. If I over-work my self like usual, my neck will lock up for days. Oddly, I found gaming to be very therapeutic. Playing challenging games gets my mind to let go of tension in my body in a way that lying down can't. Even my docs are saying to stick with it if it helps.
So, in my 40's, I made some online gamer friends and it's like hanging out on the island of misfit toys. We're all unusual in our own way but we're tight. I'm sure my reflexes aren't as sharp as the 20 year olds but I found I can out-think the opponents and predict their moves. So, I make the strategies and call-outs for my friends and we do really well. I've held my own against pro players on many occasions, which I can hardly believe because I never played competitive games until recent years. I was beyond awful 3 years ago. People would report me for being so incompetent. Seriously.
I mostly play Paladins and Gears of War, but also enjoy some non-competitive stuff with my wife like Red Dead Online, Borderlands, State of Decay, etc. In my 20's and 30's I said gaming was a big waste of time but I find it's been such a positive thing for me now and has helped keep me from getting depressed while dealing with the cervical pain. The socialization is nice too, especially when we're streaming, as I've been working for myself, by myself, for years now.

Great way to blow off steam!!! With steam right? Hahah I only have a couple throwback games from back in the day on steam that I like to play. Otherwise I'm on the playstation these days...but I see what you did there. Bravo hahahaha
I get sucked into those COD 1st person shooters, but REALLY enjoyed Ghost of Tsushima. On ps5 it's AMAZING. HIGHLY reccomend for anyone looking to get their zen on and explore.

Black ops is the best cod in a long while- you no longer have to pay for map packs and there’s plenty of vintage/old school maps to get nostalgic over. Get it!!!! Hahahaha

Bender Blackdawg I've never actually played COD. I played Battlefield a little but the ridiculous "spawn, run, shoot, kill, die, respawn" thing just got old really quick. For online games I got more into Arma, then Argo (the short mission version of Arma), then have been branching out into Hunt: Showdown (FPS but with horror PVE and also PVP elements) and now Escape From Tarkov which is another mil-sim but has more of a survival aspect like DayZ although the rounds are short. Of course I still play single-player games like Cyberpunk 2077, Doom, etc.

It's incredibly frustrating, but can also be very rewarding. Some of these games, like tarkov and Hunt, can be summed up as "unforgiving". Some of the players are just amazingly good.. Tarkov also has enemy AI called "scavs" which are too good as well. They're very much like the AI in Arma and so is the damage system in that you don't get much of a chance if you're caught with your pants down. One hit, maybe two and you're dead. You might have a chance to heal but the healing is based on regional body damage and the side effects of such. You might get your leg shot up and you can't walk, so you'd need to stop the bleeding and splint your leg and then take painkillers, etc. Unfortunately the enemies (both AI and players) are merciless and carrying around a bunch of medical supplies only means that they'll get a bunch of medical loot from your corpse, lol.

Meant no excessive health, no radar, and such. basically one/two shot kills instead of like half a mag. And you had to be careful where you went and couldn't just run n gun. I have some friends that play Tarkov though. And man some days it sounds fun. And others it sounds like they want to burn their house down hahahaha

Games like: Hunt showdown Escape from tarkov Argo I was into Tarkov for a while. That game is pretty brutal and unforgiving, but I love it.
I've been into Phasmophobia for a while now. Going to try Green Hell soon.
Do you do well in Tarkov?

I do ok. I guess I'm about 1 k/d right now in tarkov. Haven't played in a few weeks because I'm obsessing over Hunt:Showdown again. What's your extract rate? I think I was around 30% all time. I got incredibly obsessed with that game. I loved watching the savants play it on their youtube clips from Twitch. Just amazing. I've always been a tac-shooter fan. This game requires a lot to do well, though. I don't really play it well. I lose a lot of fights to fatties and players who are just plain better. That's tough. But when you win a fight with good shooting and tactics, it's literally a high. I smoked a few guys the other day, who never knew where I was because I made good moves. My heart was racing after that. Can't remember if I extracted, though.
Hunt always looked fun to me.

Hunt's great, if you're into it. Sounds kinda strange, but it's a weird mix of a game like no other. People seem to love it or hate it. It's half price right now. If you happen to get it and you're in the USA we can play and I'll walk you through it. Or if you want to do tarkov, I'm down. I can pm you my steam/tarkov handle.

They updated Hunt with new matchmaking and now you can be matched mostly with folks with similar skill levels. That makes it so much more fun and truly competitive.
