Been a pretty loyal Bulleit drinker for the past several years. Tried a few more expensive bourbons but wasn't super impressed. Gimmie some suggestions!

Elmer T Lee was a standout the last time I had a bottle.
I don’t remember which specific one it was, my brother got it for me.

Probably my favorite out of them all, but you can’t find it here, and if you can it’s over $300. I couldn’t bring myself to pay that much for a bottle of booze.

I just texted my brother about it and he was like, “Yeahhh, probably not any more bottles or that coming your way soon. It’s gotten really expensive and harder to find.” Well, it definitely made an impression. I found it buttery smooth and delicious.

The Woodford Double Oaked is easy to find and absolutely one of my favorites.

I was talking to jsteiger about it - really reminds me of Blantons. Maybe a little less complex and long on the palate - and a touch sweeter…but that woodiness/smokiness is there. Really great bourbon.

Sometimes a bottle of Knob Creek soothes the palate and the mind. Just not the Maple one. ...unless you’re having pancakes!

So hilarious... I was searching around the RGO site and saw you had a Bourbon category... LOL. And I just happen to be a bourbon lover, so I think I found my home here. Some of my faves I'd recommend:
Pappy Van Winkle ... 20 yr old... good luck finding it.. apparently it goes for many hundreds $$ a bottle now. Colonel E. H. Taylor Hancock’s President’s Reserve Russell's Reserve Elijah Craig Small Batch Bookers (careful, it's barrel proof. put it over ice or chase with a good ale) Bakers (near barrel proof) Blantons Jack Daniels Single Barrel (yes, I know, technically it's a Tennessee Whiskey ... if you're even in Nashville, day tour down to Lynchburg to do the JD distillery tour, super fun)
Decent and affordable: Woodford Reserve Knob Creek Basil Hayden Makers Mark
I will keep watching this page to see what others I can learn about. Up here in Canada it is harder to find all the good ones though.

THere's somewhat of a correlation between finer bourbons and heartburn. having a packet of Pepto abysmal chewables in your back pocket proves useful!

Never had a problem with booze and heartburn, and I don't drink much anymore. However, back in the day, drinking too much apple cider became a problem as it is very acidic, so it's hard on the stomach.

It takes some special pills to kill the yeast at the right time and not go too far with things so it doesn't get acidic or too high a proof. My fermented apple cider gets to ~ 30%abv or 60 proof. Were I to distill it into Calvados, it would be double that!!

Four Roses Single Barrel is a high rye bourbon similar to Bulleit, but with about 10% more rye. Really good bang for the buck.

There’s something about Four Roses that just doesn’t do it for me. It could be their standard mashbill (OBSV) isn't for you. They have 10 total. Ive had some Four Roses that were not my thing, and a couple that were outstanding. But theres so much good bourbon out there, may not be worth chasing down 10 different single barrels to find your preference! If you see it, George Remus is a high rye bourbon that is pretty solid and may be worth a shot. And its made by MGP, one of the best distilleries around. Many of the legendary and critically acclaimed whiskeys the last 15 years have been MGP sourced (Old Scout, OKI, High West, Baum Bros, Angels Envy Rye, Whistlepig etc)

I really try to avoid anything with rye in it. It comes from my teen years in Canada, where Seagrams rye was popular and cheap 'fighting whisky', and resulted in many. Everyone has "that one booze" you remember with a cringe, and 'rye and seven' is mine. So I won't go near a bourbon and rye combo.
One great bourbon I forgot to mention in my list above is Michter’s 10 Year Old Single Barrel... had it once and it was excellent! I wish I could find it more easily up here in Canuck land. It's not cheap though!

I always had a really horrible impression of Jack Daniels. Not sure I’ve even ever had it more than twice in my life, but TN Whiskey holds some bad memories for me. I bet I hadn’t drank a TN Whiskey in 15 years, but recently had some Greenbriar and it was pretty damn good. Shocked at how smooth TNW’s are compared to Bourbon - although I still much prefer Bourbon.
