I actually have the easiest time getting the best tone from small amps. 100$ amps with 6 or 8" speakers just seem to work.

Theres a small cheap solid state Marshall practice amp with I think an 8 or 6 inch speaker , it cost $50 used on ebay . I use it for screaming guitar Solos !! Works great !
But lets see that guy play some distorted heavy rhythm guitar with that little Marshall , it ain't gonna cut it . You gotta have a 4x12 and nice tube amp .
