In my quest to figure out why my LP won't intonate on a single string, I ran across heaps of folks raving about those. I'm tempted.. But damn they are expensive.. Nearly 50$ for a nut?

It was explained to me by my fave tech in tow that these are all most BS. That they're just making a different guess at approximations...guitars that don't into ate well enough are simply poor guitars--move on. Basically, without accounting for grab strength...fret height and width...scale length...all of this factors in, so all the nut is gonna do is offer a second option for compromised tuning--only then you can use a simple tuner and similar for setting intonation, etc.
I will also point out that when I've sat with Custom Shop strats and Anderson strats (Feiten tuning system)--it's simply more forgiving of being out of tune...at the expense of no long sounding like a Strat. It's funny, if we were talking about this as some emulation plug in, everyone would be going "the Anderson's don't emulate the classic intonation of those old guitars people played for 60 years--its just got the same GUI as this role guitars with none of the sound!"
Ha.

I don't like 'em. The guitar is just out of tune/intonation in a different way. I guess it's more evenly out of tune than without.
I dunno, maybe if I gave it more than 30 seconds and got used to it I'd like it better. But I'm used to dealing with the compromises involved using a standard nut - mostly subconsciously - so, I'm sticking with that. Some people love them though, so, YMMV.
Cheers, Geoff
