I’m not a pedal aficionado, but lately I’ve been buying relatively cheap pedals to fill out my palette of OD and distortion sounds. Mostly Joyo and Caline boxes like American Sound (nails my BF VibroChamp perfectly) and Pegasus (a Klon clone I’m told). I came across the Caline Stack Attack and I like it so much I thought I’d pass my experience along. The Stack Attack is designed to be the last pedal in the chain of two or more distortion pedals. It has its own distortion, which is very nice, and a 3-setting compressor circuit (off, mild, strong) which really helps smooth out the rest of the stack. The reason why I’m writing it up is because I have a couple of pedals that I love (Hermida Zendrive, a Mooer Rat clone and the infamous Boss DS-1) that either have a very small, hard to find sweet spot (Zen, Rat) or that sound unpleasantly buzzy on almost every setting (DS). The Stack Attack kinda magically gives these pedals a much broader range (which for the Zen is just heavenly), or makes them actually palatable. If you have some problem child OD/Dist/Fuzz pedals, check out the Stack Atack. I’m really enjoying mine and for $40, it’s worth a look.

I hope it works well for you. I found out it’s a knock-off of a Wampler Empress. If I ever play live again, I might look at an Empress for reliability. For recording, the SA works just fine.
