What kind of power are you looking for? The Analog Discovery setups are incredible bang for the buck. Used them a lot in school and have been meaning to grab one for myself.

that looks good too but i'm looking for something that can do standalone without the pc.
something i can hook up to the input of my gear at -40, -10, +4 @ 1k on the bench and then use a multimeter or daw to measure and adjust. most cheap signal generators i have found allow adjustment of freq but not mic/line level gain options.

Here's the one I have at home. Works pretty good although it's made somewhat cheaply.

I got the UNI-T UTG962 earlier this year for my weekend warrior purposes and, though I wouldn’t know how it compares to other options, I’ve been very happy with it. Nice and compact, good price - careful not to get the 932 by mistake (unless that’s the one you want of course)

Those cheapo behringer cable testers have a generator with a few different output levels and a couple of frequency options. The waveform sucks though but depending on what you need it for, it might do the job. And it's always handy to have a cable tester around anyway.
