Haha. I think I got a decent tone out of it. I was reamping for an old school thrash metal EP. Apparently everybody hates this amp, but I could have sworn people loved 'em a couple years ago!

I remember the Mesa was the ONLY amp everyone used . I think it was like late 90's , you know the Korn era .

They were pretty popular at the time. 2006/07 we were gigging pretty regularly in the Boston area and all the guys in the rock scene then were almost all playing JCM2000's. Around this time, he found a cheap Rivera M100 and checked it out. The Rivera smoked everything for loud rock tone. That's been his go to for that type of stuff since.

I've never owned any Mesa Rectifier series amp. I was always interested because they were so popular and I'd hear great tones on records from guitarists who supposedly used them. I couldn't get over the fact that they sounded terrible, to my ears at least, in a live setting.
Marshall JCM's on the other hand well- that's the sound of rock for me. My adrenaline still flows when I walk into a venue and see one of those set up.

Well, I think a used JCM800 is at the top of my list, above any Mesa

So I bought a Dual rectifier and could NOT get it to sound good . I sold it and got a Triple rectifier , same thing , sounded like crap to me . To this day I still don't get how everyone used one and got good guitar tones out of them . I love my Orange AD30 single channel head . But the JCM 800 to me is best guitar amp ever .

Orange Amps rock. I have a Dual Terror and it's a real fun amp. I've actually never owned a JCM800, which is crazy since it's my favorite sounding rock amp, but had a 1959 Plexi Reissue for quite a few years. Good amp but not like the JCM 800. I often think about what my setup would look like if I had stuck with just playing guitar and not got into audio engineering. Some day I'll get into collecting amps but too many temptations these days.........

The trick with Mesa rectifiers is to keep the gain low and quad track. If you want a stronger distortion, use a boost pedal or turned-down tube screamer or other OD on the front end. Mesas get fizzy real quick when you turn them up.
