Obsession ignited with the Pre War Guitar Company. Had a Gooden Era Martin 000-18 that I wish I’d never sold.

Bryan Sutton is among the best acoustic guitarists in the world! He hasn't won 9 IBMA Guitar Player of the Year awards for nothing...

I've recorded a lot of Pre War Guitar company guitars...Andrew, Emily and Josh in Watchhouse/Mandolin Orange have several, Molly Tuttle exclusively plays her's live and in the studio (it's also my favorite Pre War I've recorded), Rachel Baiman, Eli West, David Greer...they are wonderful instruments that look and sound the part. But I've never recorded Bryan playing anything other than that D-28 he has (that I can remember)
My absolute favorite guitar is Tim O'Brien's 1937 00-18. That's the one when it's in the studio I can't help but play. Luckily he lets me!
Regardless, if I were buying a new guitar I'd look long and hard at a Pre War.

Slope shoulder, yeah. WHY THE HELL DON"T THEY MAKE THE KING OF ALL THE '30s GUITARS?

For every person that wants a J-200, there are 1000 who want a J-45/J-50 (singer songwriters) or a D-18/D-28 (flat pickers)

They do make a slope shoulder and at around the same price point as the “vintage” Gibsons www.pre-warguitars.com/model-j

They do make a slope shoulder and at around the same price point as the “vintage” Gibsons www.pre-warguitars.com/model-jGiven a choice I play J-200s. Older ones. Other Gibsons are just fine, but they're NOTHING like a J-200, which is the only Gibson flat top I know of that has, lierally, the neck of a top of the line Gibson jazz guitar. Other than that I usually prefer old Guilds, but oddly enough the Dreadnaughts, not the Jumbos. Old Martins are good, too, but I'm not so much of a Martin freak as many folks are.
Speaking of flat-tops, anyone here ever play a Grammer? I would expect that in Nashvilee there would be a few...

Asked other top guitarists friends in LA. Same. ?? No one knew who he was. Always something to learn, and no matter how big or good you are, there's always someone who has no clue to your greatness. Hahaaa!! Keeps us all humble.

Yeah - if they don’t know bluegrass I’d be surprised. He’s much more than that, but that’s where he came from. I bet they know of Buk, though.
