Will Grohl follow the Eagles who brought in Glenn Fry’s son, and Springsteen who brought in The Big C’s nephew? The kid was awesome in what was probably the hardest gig he will ever play.

So fun fact, my son went to the same boarding school as Shane. Small world, right?
I really enjoyed getting to know the kid, his dad was a real sweetheart. Super "up" all the time, like ADHD on roids. But when it came to his son, he was an all-star dad. Taylor and I bonded over being 'the weird parents that all the others looked at strangely' and were talking about installing a rudimentary PT setup at school - he'd work his industry connects and i'd help with training (i have hookups, but not Taylor Hawkins hookups).
My son graduated last spring, but I've talked to Shane a few times since Taylor's passing and I'll occasionally check in with a text. The biggest thing I wanted to impress on him is that, even growing up in 'the life' like he did, that he needed to keep his head on - that the fleas and ticks of rock and roll are sharpening their teeth to feast on what Shane can do for them - as agents, publicists, whatever. "They're going to stroke your ego like a kitten," is what I warned him. "Don't fall for it."
Now, all that said? I really choked up watching that performance of "My Hero".
If anyone wants to see something less awesome, I've got video of Shane backing up my son's performance of "Home Sweet Home" at their talent show at the end of last year.

That was a beautiful heartwarming post. Thanks so much. And Kharma X 1Billion to you for saying that to him.

It’s great to know that someone is trying to keep him grounded And great to know it’s someone who hangs in our little corner of the internet.

He's got good people looking out for him - not least of which is Dave Grohl himself. Shane's only 16, but he's in a fantastic school that'll shield him from the noise and just let him live a relatively normal life with good values.
It's amazing to hear myself think this, but I don't envy him. I went from one side of the glass to the other before my 20's were over and have certainly worked with and around more than my fair share of empty husks of people who bought the big rock n roll swindle. The fans eventually leave. The drugs eventually don't work. The bill always comes due.
