OK this starts with a ribbon cable for a dishwasher, packed in a padded envelope 3 in a row with cracked connectors and bent pins. Then there was the AC adapter shipped from Japan 2 had broken AC plugs the 3rd had the other connector sheared off and the wire hanging out the envelope. Then there was the heat shrink ribbon s crushed. All from fulfillment centers most in those damn plastic envelopes. Do these companies not know what UPS FedEx DHL and USPS do to packages? Or how about this one where I got negative comments on EBAY removed because the guy said he used packing materials? Yeah a 12in speaker in a 16x16 box wrapped in about 3/4 in of recycled bubble wrap that looked like someone had popped 3/4 of it so the speaker had about 10 iniches of travel bouncing around a recycled box that had holes and the top dented in at least an inch! Needless to say the magnet wasn’t in alignment when it got here! Of course insurance claim denied because of improper packing thank god when I used Amex via PayPal! Because as EBay and payhell dragged there ass Amex took the money back the day I called!
Look I have seen each of these destroy Pelican cases, and 3/8 ATA’s what makes people think anything but soft goods will survive in Mylar?

Begrudgingly liked your comment. I mailed a bubble envelope letter today, noticed at the automated label maker it asked if I wanted the insurance for 500% more than the cost to mail? No. It asked me again if I’m sure? And now offered me 3 insurance options, one for as low as 100% as shopping cost. I declined but it made me think, was I being dumb? I’m only mailing a payment to the DMV!
I’ve done temp for Fed Ex, and learned; they give the drivers no tie downs at all. You can arrange your load before you leave, the truck can be secure, but as soon as you drop the big boxes you roll up the door and it’s a spin cycle, a dumpster of random boxes. Coming off the belt is no different, it’s getting tossed.
Insurance companies must love it though

That's just how it is today with everyone on the internet and the internet convincing everyone to be mediocre at their jobs lest the big-bad-corporation take advantage of them at 15$ an hour. throw the thing in the closest package you can grab and off to the next one. Caring about doing a good job is dead.

When I did temp at FedEx, it was eye opening. I of course planned to do the job right, secure boxes, organize my stops in order. That was quickly thrown out the window. 10+ trucks load all at the same time, and no more trucks can load until they are moved out of the way and empty trucks can pull into the stalls.
I’d get my 100 boxes, within 10 minutes I’m the last guy in a stall everyone else already on the route, multiple management dudes are coming over, frown faced, walkie talkies, wondering why I’m taking so long? I need to organize route first to last and secure boxes. Otherwise boxes are all damaged and each stop will take 5 minutes looking for boxes. Nope, not ok, they need to tell upper management you are already delivering. I talk to other drivers: everyone goes to parking lots and organizes the route because if FedEx saw them on campus do it, they’d get fired for being slow. After a few days, I’m shoving in boxes at FedEx facility, after a long drive and spin cycle I get to a parking lot and spend half an hour fixing it all. F-it, what could I do besides quit or get fired
Add in the reality that my temp job was 1099, I make the exact same no matter how long, or short, it takes. And it takes 3-5 minutes each stop when boxes aren’t sorted. Or more when you cant find a box. Versus when things are sorted and secured, 30-60 seconds per stop. It’s run so dysfunctional it’s hard to believe. The temp job was only 10 days or so, Xmas help. Enough to see how incredibly dumb it is… or probably purposefully bad when you consider insurance profits. I’m still in disbelief, but when you hear of guys skipping all breaks including bathrooms, it’s totally believable.

Insurance companies must love it though FYI they won’t pay anything out on an insurance claim of any kind of check, sure they will take the money but they won’t pay out. In there eyes no need to insure because if it’s lost or shredded you can cancel it. Had a customer years ago who’s certified check got lost, he had insured it, found out they wouldn’t pay, then found out his bank wouldn’t cancel it for 30 days, he was sweating for 30 days but was lucky that nobody tried to cash it.
