Man, I haven't used Amplitube in many years now. How is it these days? Take this with a grain of salt as I am primarily a keyboard player, and not someone who has played guitar through a lot of tube amps, though I have played very badly off and on for almost 25 years. I’m a sucker for melancholy chimey clean tones, Rockman crunch, and big 80s chorus leads. I like the newer Amplitube models quite a bit, especially the Fender 2 collection. I had Amplitube 3 ages ago and remembered it being good for where technology was at the time. More recently I picked up some Tech 21 pedals (Liverpool and Blonde) and Amplitube for mobile, where I was knocked out by the afore mentioned Fenders, especially the Super Reverb. The Tech 21 pedals are fun for just playing around but they’re noisy and are a pain to record, and the mobile Amplitube was great but not integrated into my ITB PC workflow, and I’m still missing most of the IAP add ons. I find that when I have the DI performance dialed in, I can tweak Amplitube to get the rest of the way to the sound I’m going for. Buying the collection ($69 with Jam Points, they hooked me) got me all the rooms, the Fenders, the Brian May AC30, the Rockman emulation, plus everything else. I’m really looking forward to putting it through its paces. Added: I will add one thing: in the time that I've been playing through it, good 3rd party IRs really seem to have the edge over the included cabs, but I primarily got this for the amps and rooms (which can still be used with a custom IR) so that's not the worst thing. |

On an added note, buying Amplitube 5 Max seems to have “unlocked” a $99 crossgrade to Total Studio Max. I don’t know if everyone can see it or just recent Max owners,

I just got the Cherry Audio Rackmode suite on a crazy good sale: Plugin Alliance has it for $38 (normally is $100), and I used my $25 PA voucher to get the price down to $13.

I think the Fender bundles are great, but it is likely a function of putting boundaries on my options since I understand Fender amps so well having owned a few and played through many more. I also think the greatest barrier to getting a great take with a sim is simply getting excited about the results. In the mix I’m about as happy with takes I do with my amps as I am with Amplitube and my Mooer GE200 with Ownhammer IRs. It’s really the part and the performance at the end of the day. I briefly owned a Pocket Pod (just for fun) and cannot say the same about it. But past some kind of uncanny valley, newish sims seem quite good to me. In some ways, sims might be almost better in that they force me to reach deeper for inspiration vs. the instant gratification of being in the room with the vibe machine that is my Silvertone 1482. We are really spoiled for choice these days. |

if i didn't own so many damn UAD plugs, their sale for the bundles is easily the best deal i've ever seen them have. I know man. I really don’t need anything else…but that’s tempting. |
