You can hear his shoes tapping from time to time before the gate cuts it off. Cool. And this was way before vocal fixing and auto tune. WOW.

Listening to just the vocals, I realized what a great storyteller Marvin Gaye was. Despite knowing the lyrics , I could hardly wait to hear the rest of the story when he started..
