I would, but first I’d want to find out how it compares to the Sanken CU-55.

Then again, I've never considered 2-way mics.

Yeah I have always said awesome concept, but give me some control over that frequency because no matter where you put it at some point it’s going to be a problem, in fact the Sanken guy thought I was nuts till I took a c414 and Earthworks through matching pres and a BSS variable crossover, the got it but never did anything about it.

The Josephson has two outputs so that you can 'blend at will.' It's not cheap, mind you.

Their fet mics sounds great through tube pre amps. The C100 did especially.

I recently did a comparison against their C100. I also threw in the Zp800G in the mix. Nice mics and think the Sonys are hard to beat in that price range.

The interesting thing is there a bunch of used C38’s around for less than a grand.

Thanks for that comparison, Christian. I've seen your videos before and am glad you are on this board! Your voice is lovely and makes for an ideal source for this type of mic. I thought the C80 and C100 were really close: the C100 was a tiny bit smoother, but I was surprised how nice the C80 sounds given its low price. The Zp800G was grainier than the others and I didn't like the harshness in the upper mids. I'm really surprised the Zp costs as much as it does! Hmmm....maybe I AM in the market for another mic

Thanks guys! Maybe I prefer the C-100 a tad bit more but it's really marginal so I'd definitely go with the C-80. It also sounded very good on voice-over work. On the actual C-80 video I had a semi-cold so my talking voice was a bit darker and grittier and it sounded very nice haha!

After listening to a couple of C100 vs C80 compression a couple of things, first the C80 is a very “Sony” product idea, in that to some it seams like a revolutionary idea that the marketing guys will love, except it’s not a revolutionary idea. The second is most of these very Sony products have damn good bones and if you strip them down there is probably a better product. I’m not saying the C100 is a bad mic, the HF extension at this price is unheard of, but anytime you are dealing with 2 transducers at once you bring up the issues of where do you crossover, phase issues at the crossover point, and the realities of 2 different polar patterns. The C80 shows the elegance of simplicity, if the capsule has a decent HF do you really need the extension and all the trouble that extra capsule brings? Can you get by without it? The Answer for a lot of people is going to be hell yes, Hudsonic is going to be the exception around here. The thing is the salesman in me thinks the C100 would sell a lot of C80’s “what the cheaper one sounds as good on me or better?” “ I can get a pair of these for the price of 1”. The question is will Sony keep both around long enough? Well knowing Sony’s approach to pro audio that Mirrors Panasonic and Pioneers, I plan to try to pic up at least a pair of c80’s this year, because if it’s a pro audio product from a major Japanese manufacturer and I like it, it’s going to disappear.

If anyone is curious, you can use your musicians friend coupon on this. I tested it out but didn’t pull the trigger. Really can’t imagine buying any more LDCs at the moment

I actually managed to get my hands on the C80, actually preferred the Warm which is as surprising to you as it is me. There's an annoying crispyness surrounding the top end with said WA-8000 but the LA-2A alleviates that to some extent. That WA just has bags of clarity / realism from the get go though and I really do like that.
I'm curious are there any other mic's that can do realistic out the box?
