Haven’t watched this video yet but I love this song. I always just kinda drift off when it comes on.

A longtime favorite of mine since I was a kid. The songwriter, Jimmy Webb, did a piano version of it many years back on his excellent album Ten Easy Pieces. Glen Campbell’s version is also great as we all know.
That fade out section….👌

ragan exactly, is there a more evocative pop/country/rock song? And the string counter melodies: just sublime!

spindrift never heard that before: lovely makes me wonder if Jimmy auditioned the song personally for Glen: what a place in time that would have been.

Didn't watch the full video, but the phrase greatest country song actually seems smaller than the songs accomplishment to me. A song I don't thing of genre's at all when I hear and if I did would be crossovers at the very least. It's just a truly great song that has so much going for it on many levels above and beneath the surface, Lyrics, arrangement, melody, emotion, counter melody etc etc etc. Genius is right.

As much as I love this, in my opinion, it’s not even Glen Campbell’s greatest song let alone county’s greatest. Two other Jimmy Webb songs Campbell recorded , “By the Time I Get to Phoenix” and “Galveston”, are both stronger to me especially lyrically. But the greatest Glen Campbell song is John Hartford’s “Gentle on My Mind” as far as I am concerned.

My first musical hero. The first song that possessed my soul and left me gobsmacked.
If I could ever write a song that could move someone like this one moved me, or sang it like that, I would feel an immeasureable sense of accomplishment.
Flabbergasting. The Jimmy Webb piano version brings a whole new depth to it.

The exposure of The Glenn Campbell Show didn’t hurt. For me though it was Galveston, who knew I would spend 7 years on that Island?

Glad I didn't like By The Time I Get to Phoenix . . . although my daughter and family are moving there next year, so I guess I will be singing "by the team I get to Phoenix (or Glendale or Scottsdale or Mesa)" soon enough.
