Not sure if anyone has had the experience, but I'll be in Tokyo for a while later this month. I have a few recommendations for places to check out instruments (hoping to maybe find a cool Ibanez telecaster style talman, if not a Fender) but has anyone been and know of any interesting pro audio shops? Didn't really occur to think about it until recently, but I do like a lot of gear that at least has brand origins in Japan (Audio-Technica, Sony, Sanken, etc).
The thought just occurred to me it might be cool to see what sorts of odds/ends I could find while there. Less headache involved shipping a microphone or bringing it back in a suitcase compared to guitar-related toys (minus pedals).

(Bumping this thread)
Anyone have info or experiences with purchasing recording gear in Tokyo? The yen is quite weak against the dollar at the moment.
I contacted Sanken, but they do not sell factory-direct. And both of their two Tokyo distributors seems to carry only their lav mics.
I did find online listings for nice prices on Audio-Technica gear at a retailer called Tomoca.
