Found this quote online: „According to industry reports, guitar sales have decreased consistently for over a decade. Total US guitar sales dropped over 50% from 1.5 million units yearly in the 2000s down to around 600,000 as of 2020.“
so … we guitar player are the dinosaurier, a dying species. no wonder rock is over in the mainstream.
would be cool if prices would drop too. they did bit only on the entry level.

I would assume at some point the market gets saturated, no? that, and a shift towards other genres, I'm not that surprised that sales are falling. not like even the cheap ones are disposable. maybe there can be a campaign to encourage guitar smashing on stage?

is it because they only got data from Fender and Gibson? So many clone guitars selling for under $200. maybe they just don't want to count those?

This article is 4 or 5 years out dated. The pandemic lead to a massive increase in guitar purchases and purchase of other instruments/recording gear. The inflation of 2022 is part of this same story. Tons of people purchased more guitars and gear than could be produced which lead to price increases. This happened in many other markets as well. From Sweetwater in 2021, “Guitar purchases also grew 50 percent year-over-year, while sales for other stringed instruments <$299 increased 70 percent, indicating that new players joined the fold”. You can read more here: www.sweetwater.com/about/press-releases/00450Logically, figures must be lower now compared to 2020-21 since most people are back to regular work and family schedules and so many people made purchases in 2020-21. Additionally, there are more and more sales of 2nd hand guitars/gear thanks to reverb and FB marketplace. Etsy financials show consistent growth of their reverb business both old and new.
