Did anyone else notice they show a rack of Hairball pre's and call them Audioscape's? I turned it off at that point cuz WTF. If you're a pro get yer facts straight. Please correct me if I am wrong... Yeah producers were even worse! I do remember explaining to one manufacturer “ yeah it was your mic was what what was used on the final track, but —- ——— wouldn’t know. He wasn’t their for that session & had nothing to do with mixing, he just remembers what we used for the guide vocal or has to do his part to keep getting free stuff.”

Yeah, I never understood the whole “give me free gear people will see me using it and will buy some because I’m a name” thing. Honestly, CAPI stuff is such a great bargain that it seems pretty insane. I think I’ve built about 20 of Jeff’s modules for people after going to their rooms with my lunchbox in hand and using them on sessions. You know it’s a great piece of gear when somebody hears it and goes “I need that!”. Which is cool - Jeff sells gear, I make a little cash soldering up some modules, and there is more CAPI in the universe and all is good! Because some idiot will always give in and send them free stuff, no different from all the influencers getting free everything. Now I just might have a tiny bit of a bias here, but hear me out: first I always thought it made more sense to give the guys actually selling your stuff a free demo, they are going to learn it and push it because they understand if they want more they need to move more. A simple Example Symetrix “ accidentally left me one of their Graphic EQ’s for 8 months, that thing spent time in a bunch live rigs, loaned out to a couple of consultants, sold a ton. Who cares what mic Chuck Alianey likes this week ? 2nd biggy here which of the following do you think sold more mics? Smart has a bunch of ATM25’s”, or “ Mike was just in and bought a bunch of ATM25’s for Smart?”. This also gives me memories of Employee Accomodation.

I'm no actor and I'm no rockstar. But this feels like the proverbial actor who makes his money and then thinks buying equipment and riding his acting fame suddenly equals star musician. Money and autotune can cover a lot of warts, but that old saying about not being able to polish 'something' holds true. The phrase "Stay in your lane." comes to mind.

Have you seen the Billy Bob interview from Canadian radio where the host was told no acting questions and then Billy Bob has a fit that the host calls him actor and musician Billy Bob...?
