I have been paying for ultimate. I decided to check and be sure I need it. My system ID didn't show support availability. i paid an extra $80 to ask a simple F question.
If i have a 3rd party interface, does ultimate give me any features above Studio. the F receptionist would not allow me to have an intelligent conversation with a support team member - even though I paid TWICE for this - in my sub and a 1-time ASC.
i could have been done with them in 30secs. Instead it was a cluster F call for 20 mins as she didn't know WTF she was doing. THIS reminds me why I left the POS years ago. I won't give them another F cent. End of F rant.

I’m not really sure what Ultimate gives you other than more tracks and aux’s…and maybe some surround stuff.

I thoguht perhaps delay comp. Suspected there may be more. Money wasn't an issue. It's a business expense but when you black ball me from asking a simple question, I'm done.

OK yeah AVID support sucks, but I’ll be honest this question should have probably been asked of a dealer, support from AVID and most manufacturers is for after sale, not product qualification. If you really want I can put you in touch with a dealer who I can explain the situation & understand she needs to be ready to get the rep involved ( most likely her bosses husband who for a while replaced 1/5th of me).

Thanks but that's ok. I didn't have a dealer to ask. I was able to contact for cancellation and I uninstalled. I'm out.

I feel that pain, after 30 years I’m slowly making a switch to Logic and I won’t look back, the standardization of pro tools doesn’t matter to me anymore, this business is dead, good riddance

Apple, eh the dude at the Genius Bar, my dog is bigger (140 lbs) and smarter.

Ive used it off and on for decades. That's the direction I am leaning. Presently, I record live multitracks with it. So my "album" sessions are already there.

Outside of importing midi to edit into Cubase or Logic, I cannot think of a reason not to use it for everything. Even live editing, crazy fades, and four point editing are possible with the ReaClassical add on you can keep on a separate install

Reaper feels like it’s designed for a mouse and keypad user. I *really* need to do a tutorial vid for folks. The stock UI is a little slow, a few adjustments makes it super fast. Someday when I have some actual uninterrupted time …

I have had "challenging" questions for Avid before, went through the dealer who then went to Avid and the answer was somewhat complicated but could be reduced by rational logic to "no."
As for Ultimate over Studio, track count, real-time dsp monitoring on Carbon (something like that, can't recall exactly), Dolby Atmos support, and a few other things, IIRC.
I dropped back to "Studio" when I had my Carbon because I didn't want to pay for Ultimate, didn't need it. Track count, real-time dsp stuff (using Carbon,) and Atmos I recall were the biggest decision factors.
Studio works fine for me and its what I am using. I just get my questions answered by Sweetwater and keep moving.

Someday when I have some actual uninterrupted time … Reaper Mania with Kenny Gioia makes the software usable. The same with Logic and Logic Gem and Logic Pro help. Illogical software.

3 sec google foo: www.avid.com/pro-tools/comparisonBasically Post work flows(Tv/Film) and track counts are really the biggest differences now. Studio has surround/atmos support now as Avid wants "normal" folks to be able to make atomos music at home and they added advanced automation which was one of the biggest differences. So really 90% of people will be totally happy with Studio. Unless you like using a ton of sub busing then you'll run out of tracks/busses probably for big projects.

Ya guys, I studied that chart for a while before ever thinking to call for help. I didn't trust my comprehension of the differences but thanks.

Do not feel bad, honestly I would probably call for clarification because there are always just couple of little thing that might seam unimportant to most, except to some they are deal breakers. You can tell I miss the days of being an AVID Specalist?

That’s what I use Reaper for - live multitrack recordings of gigs off my X-32 desk. It’s compact and will run on just about anything with a CPU in it. Perfect for mobile recordings of shows. I then export to Cubase and mix the show.

Yes it's a very reliable and super stable DAW. Confusing as flip to the way I think - but I have worked out enough of the Reaper maze to record live shows. And I do like it's GUI - I think it's very slick.

Studio also does Atmos. At this point, Ultimate seems strictly for large postproduction projects. Artist is even enough for most people.

Does Studio have fully functioning delay compensated and easy to use Hardware Inserts like Cubase? In Cubase you insert a hardware insert plugin - it sends out a ping signal then automatically works out the delay through the hardware and converters - displays the value and then you save it in the plugin - so you only have to do it once for any given path. I presume Avid now how this handled in their native offerings like Studio?

Using Avid compatible hardware makes it completely automatic. Using non-Avid compatible hardware requires measuring the interface once so that you know what value to set.
