Well seems like no one here (sniffle-grabs hankie )... Wanted my poor little Original Soyuz Launcher. So… I took the little Beast out for a listen. And remembered how my ‘umble Presonus Audiobox (Shields on! You high rollers out there! ) Takes the Edge off a signal. * Lo and Behold. AKG D770 > Launcher > Audiobox. Sounds quite good! Maybe not quite as much as our Beloved Boutique LDC’s. But IMHO for a Live Studio Vocal recording with a Band playing… Pretty cool. I’ll try to record some decent vocals, with this chain. Over this weekend. Chris * Yes the unfortunate side of the Audiobox was also removing all the Lead Guitar parts of my U2 records.

Not sure why you tried to sell it... I had a few of the mono ones for a while, but I sold them when I got the Launcher Deluxe. I just didn't need that many channels at once, and it was cool being able to put it in saturate mode and have some passive color without the boost. The only reason I would advocate selling a Launcher is if you're going to replace it with the Deluxe one.

IMHO on most of my vocal microphones… The usual Croon wasn’t sounding as Smooth. Drumsound was the first to alert me. Chris P.S. Here's a brief One Take/RAW Vocal clip. Exact same vocal. Repeated twice.

I had a Launcher, sold it. In retrospect I think one of its shortcomings is the inseparable nature of the boost and saturation functions. A lot of the mics that you would run through it (dynamics) are already dark by nature and in my experience got a bit muddier from the additional darkening of the Launcher, though the bit of added harmonics were cool. My more interesting experience in the short time I had it was running unbalanced keyboards into it via a DI and picking up some analog saturation that way. It sounds like the Deluxe fills that niche, which is pretty cool, but it's also not worth $600 to me

Nerding out on the UA Volt "Vintage Button" today. Sounds like it brings out a bit more Resonance. More subtle than the OG Launcher. Adds around 5 years/20 pounds to my Tenor-ish Bari. The Launcher as you indicate... Is more obvious/Thicker. The D770/D790 have excellent Clarity (for a Dynamic) and are pretty Mellow. So a good fit for my Launcher. Adds 10+ years/50 pounds. LOL! Here's the D770 into the Launcher. THEN... Into UA Volt with "Vintage Button" ON/Circuit emulation of UA 610 Pre. Very Smoooooth! Another "one take"/RAW Vocal. Intro of Norwegian Wood. Chris

Yeah I decided against the Launcher for a couple reasons. One I don’t think I can really talk about here, but I didn’t really want something colouring while I am boosting. So I went with the Cathedral pipes which seemed the cheapest non Behringer option. I am happy so far.
Cheers, Geoff

Wow, not much love for the launcher here lol.
I adore it. It's definitely a special flavor. To me for some reason it's kind of a mix between an edgy solid state op amp and a transformer flavor. I didn't find that it was dark or muddying, maybe mid forward and perhaps a bit brash is how I would describe it?
I never really used it with microphones, I found that with my tube and ribbon mics it was just too colorful overall.
But it's fantastic on a drum bus, or stereo synth, or a base. I use it in saturate mode rather than boost mode of course for these line signals.
What I really like to do is hit it hard at around +12 to +16 dBu and then blend the signal back in parallel.
As I mentioned, it's kind of a blend between pure transformer and solid state flavor, it can get a tad bit buzzy if pushed too hard but otherwise it does smooth wonderfully as shown by that silky tone in Chris's voice :-)

Since my “true Voice” is mostly a Light (Tenorish) Baritone… It’ll help add Vocal Weight/“Authority”. Otherwise I have to lower the Key for that. LOL! Chris

Postscript… While Launcher adds vocal weight and Presence. It does reduces Detail/Clarity.
Handy tonal option nonetheless. Chris
