Same here! Saw it on their site recently, but no sound clips unfortunately. I think any company really should develop sound clips/videos that are ready at release. Drive’s me a little batty that there’s so many mic manufacturers who don’t do that….these products are thousands of dollars, you’d think that would be par for the course. Anyway, rant over, very interested in hearing it at some point.

Another piece for collectors....
I realize low quantity, custom parts = higher costs, but $8K is up there. I was on staff for about 5 years at a studio that had 2 originals (probably K47 capsules, though), so I am very familiar with the "real thing" and I've found some of the clones around the $2-3K mark to nail it where I can't imagine spending 3x that if its to be used as a tool.

I saw that pop up a few times, still quite expensive but a bit cheaper than I was expecting it to be. It's going to have to kick the pants off the Wunder and Flea for that money.

I don’t think these zero compromise builds are just for collectors. I paid the equivalent for a Wunder CM7 15 years ago and I think it’s been worth every penny - I bought it because it sounded indistinguishable from a vintage 47 I’d used. I can sell it for more than I paid for it and it’s been a wonderful recording tool over the years.

How'd you come to that?

I concluded it was a build without compromise and worth the money. And to my ears, the sound it captures reflects his approach - it’s absolutely perfect, it’s magical actually in as much as it has that iconic reedy mids and a larger than life presentation yet breath taking realism that makes me sound like I’m stood there right beteeen the speakers without sounding clinical in the least - I think that’s magical and no other mic in my locker can achieve those seemingly contradictory goals. Just my humble opinion.

I could never land on one of his capsules that wasn’t strident or too dark on my voice. I’m definitely more piercing and mid forward than most anyone else I’ve recorded…or at least I can make mics get strident for whatever reason. Anyway, the mics were beautiful and Mike was helpful to the point I couldn’t get off the phone with him.
Now that I think of it, I was making judgements on these things in a diy room treatment and no room correction. But it was pretty obvious it would get spiky when I pushed.

Actually this thread is now reminding I still want to hear the BeesNeez BU47. I got a chance to use a Tribute 1 a few years back and it was so smooth! I've previously owned the Wunder, Flea and Soundelux 47 models. All great but something about that Tribute 1 was just so nice to sing into. Actually, I'd like to hear a Tribute 1 and BU47 side by side...any chance someone here has gotten to do that?

Just my humble opinion. I have no doubt they are great tools as well. I just have found with my own experience that one can find a great U47 style mic/clone for a lot less than $8K. That is what I meant by saying the VK replica is another one for collectors. I've used the Wunder and remember liking it. That said, I have more experience with 2 vintage ones, the Flea, and the Pearlman TM-47. For my money, the Pearlman is a damn fine mic. Clients think so, too. It beat out a vintage M49 last month on a particular vocalist. A lot of other people have expressed love for the Heiserman, too. Just using the TM-47 as an example... it doesn't have "the correct" cable, or tube, or vintage PSU, but it does the thing I expect a U47 to do. Is it 1:1? Don't care. Its like a guitar... if I want a Les Paul sound for the part, I don't care if the 2000s one the artist has sounds exactly like an original Sunburst from the 60's, as long as it has the general qualities one expects an LP to have. At the end of the day, if I can find a tool that does a similar job for less, that means more funds available for more tools. Less isn't more... more is more!

The Wunder CM7 was less …. than a vintage 47! So yeah, the Wunder made a lot of sense. Do it once - do it right. Always works for me

Don’t forget Signal Art. Go read my review on it. I was thinking I want to hear your SignalArt Next to this thing. Now let’s interject some fun, for how many builders of Boutique 47 clones is VK the top dealer? Yeah that’s what I want my top dealer building their own!

I'd be pretty annoyed if any retailer was making their own version of anything. I get house brand cables or drumsticks that really are just custom labels (Vater made our house brand sticks). But If I'm Flea or Wunder and see the VK47 I'm making a call to one of the brothers. (VK is owned by brothers isn't it?)

One thing about the more expensive mikes, is they are things of ascetic beauty: makes you feel good just looking at them !

One thing about the more expensive mikes, is they are things of ascetic beauty: makes you feel good just looking at them ! I agree. Still, after 15 years of owning and using my Wunder CM7 (early 200's serial) I'm in awe of how beautifully it's made. And it's weight is just perfect - feels like a Vintage 47 (sounds darn close to one too!) For me what I paid for above anything else is the frikkin' superb M7 capsule inside it. It has an ability to render a breathtaking sense of realism to the source yet through a larger than life rose tinted prism. How did Mike achieve that - it's blinking clever engineering! I guess that's reflected in the price.

We went through 3 capsules till we found what we wanted and Mike was awsome.... Mike was awesome, I have a voice somewhat like Sting, I sent a clip of me singing "Every breath you take" and the dealer I went through said Mike tweaked the capsule to bring out the perfect amount of reedy mids and soft presence that a great 47 has - my cap is an M7. I'm not sure exactly what took place but when I received the mic it was a perfect match to my voice, the dealer recorded me singing the clip again through the CM7 and apparently Mike was very happy with the results. I was blown away! It was 15 years ago now and in those days I had a Db above high C .... I did a mean Roxanne :-) Now at 61 sadly my range has dropped a 4th (as often happens to old tenors) but it's mellowed and so has my CM7 - we've mellowed together I should track something and post a clip

It's a shame Neumann never trademarked "u47" or "M7". People could be led to think it's an actual u47. There's nothing in there resembling a real u47. Different output transformer, different "tube" (not actually a tube), different capsule, different PSU design, and on and on. Just another clone...

To be fair though the current Neumann U67 and M49 mics aren't exact recreations of the originals either.
