Hello everyone! Eric here. I'm excited to announce Locomotive's move into the 500 series with a single-channel version of the stereo rackmount 86B-2 mic preamp. This being a dual-space module running high voltage for the tubes (~275v), we kept the power consumption to approximately 300mA per rail (150mA per rail per space). So basically, any 500 series chassis should have no issue powering this guy up. This has been a question asked a lot so far! We are also moving away from the EF86 pentode due to a lower supply of quiet and well-priced EF86 tubes. The newly manufactured EF86 options aren't the best for this specific design. Instead, we are putting in NOS British "equivalent" CV4006s. Read more below if you care about specs!* Through November 30th, we are taking preorders for the first production run, set to be shipped in January. Order before Nov 30 and receive a $100 discount on the module! You may order directly at www.locomotiveaudio.com/86b-1. If you do have a dealer in your country, please order through them. :-) Please ask questions. Thanks! *The CV4006 is the special-quality version of the type 6BR7. This means any 6BR7 tube can also be used in this space as well. While the 6BR7 tube is said to be a replacement for the EF86, it really isn't and doesn't operate at the same range and specs as the EF86 unless changes to the surrounding components are made. And that's what was done here. A couple resistor changes was all that was needed to get this tube to respond identically to the EF86.

Beautiful!
5 of these in a rack would make an awesome mobile tube tracking rack for drums!
