Anyone have any experience with it? Currently rocking the Behringer A800 with my new passives. Its fine. Loud and punchy, but with the extended high end of the monitors, I can now hear a little hiss and it’s maybe a little aggressive with the extra sensitivity of the speakers. Just curious if I might gain some smoothness, silence from a new amp.

Yeah - search for a used Lexicon NT. I just tried a new amp from a reputable manufacturer…had a much higher wattage per channel than my Lexicon, (put it this way - I expected it to be better)…it was not by any stretch. Like frighteningly not as good. Kind of freaks me out a little just how many parts of the equation we have to get right to do this shit. I would have completely thought Amphion speakers were shit if this was the only amp I had…

Found a few online shops that sell hypex builds for very good prices. Seems like a good option.

Grab a used Adcom 545 or 555 and have Jime Williams mod it. It’s a fantastic amp even without the mods. And it’s so much cheaper than a Bryston etc.

Adcom 555 modded. Amphion 700 finally has some power but is grotesquely overpriced.

Thanks guys. I think I’ll probably just stick with the a800 at the moment. I mean, it does what’s it supposed to do. Makes the music come out of my speakers with lots of power to spare. I can always upgrade down the road if I feel like it. I’ve had my eye on a bu67, and I think that’s a better studio investment.

I was surprised when I ran my monitors through my Adcom (Stock), and then shocked when I got my JW Adcom. It was a holy shit moment. Half the sound, good or bad, is the amp. But…yes you should definitely get the BU67 also!

So I was doing a lot of reading the last few days on the different varieties of class D amps out there. Hypex is probably the most well known, but there is also Pascal and Purifi. Anyways, after reading and talking to a few builders who use those modules, I’ve decided to try out a Purifi build. It should be about 280 watts per side at 8ohms. My speakers only need 100, so the extra power should make sure I never run into distortion. I’m having it built in a nice rack case as well. I’m not expecting a world of difference, but I’m hoping for a cleaner, more effortless sound out of the new monitors. They use a Hiquphon tweeter which really extends way up. The Behringer is just kind of biting my ears off when I crank it up. Nice return policy as well if it’s not what I’m looking for, but I think this will be a really nice match!
