I bought a well known brand of vibrating drum stool to use with my electronic drum kit.
It's a great bit of gear and gives you the physical sensation of playing a drum kit as you get the visceral feedback through the stool as you play the drums - it s very effective.
However .... I borrowed a TriField TF2 EMF Meter and put it on the stool and played some drums the reading was around 20 to 30 mg of magnetic field with peaks up to 50. The manafacturer of the meter says safe levels should be less than 3mg (but I've no idea if that's a scientific fact?)
I know electronic gear can give of EMF (my studio monitors produce a similar reading at 3 inches away from the meter) but normally we don't sit on our gear!
Is the transducer in my vibrating stool potentially harming my health or are these levels of mg insignificant?

Hi, I probably won't be much help but I'm hoping to learn.
What units are you expressing the measurement in (what is "mg")?
Wouldn't it be volts V or Newtons N?
Edit: nevermind... I guess it's milli gauss mG?

My reaction as well, I came in here because I thought someone was swallowing batteries It wouldn't be the first time. As a kid my sister and I dared each other to eat some of the crusty brown stuff oozing from the battery in an old toy. We easily got down a few mg of the material. We both lived and parents never found out I can tell you, it's acidic :-D thehightenor I just looked up safe levels of EMF like you mentioned. Dude. Your an order of magnitude higher than the safe levels. I don't wanna be alarmist, but could you be cooking that prostate?

If it's good enough for Canada and the UFC, it's good enough for these testicles!

I have zero expertise in this area but my little understanding of it has always been that taking a call on your cell and putting it on speaker while holding the phone away from you was safer than right up to your ear. I'd be concerned that the same thing applies here as it's a device you have to sit on. Maybe there is some pair of faraday underwear out there that would come in handy? 😁

25 to 30 milligrams of magnet is pretty light, i can't imagine it would be very dangerous, maybe if you dropped them from waist level onto ants in your kitchen? but that would take a long time to get rid of them, may i suggest windex😜

I guess this afternoon I'll be stocking up on tin foil (for hats, and maybe underwear...) and pulling the fridge magnets off so I can bury them in concrete 60 ft below ground...

I’m probably just being paranoid, but I’d feel happier going back to a normal stool and a monitor kicking out some sub near by for some low end vibe.

Actually ….
What about all those millions of vibrating gaming seats that have been sold to gamers.
They use exactly the same technology!

So I should stop wearing my magnet pants? If you want to retain your testicular chakras? Yes, dispose of them ceremoniously...

Does my magnetic personality count as a danger?
My Shrink ended up absorbing 20 mg. During my last visit. (of Valium) Chris

My kidding aside. (And sorry I didn’t realize how much it cost!)…
IMHO if you can check with an appropriate professional, most likely they will assure you it’s safe. Chris

Joking aside… Are you selling this because you’re worried it’s not safe? From what I’m understanding, it’s putting out about as much as a cellphone or computer. Just playing devils advocate here, but you should probably stop spending as much time around the computer (doing things like posting on forums 😂) or carrying around that cellphone in your pocket. God knows how many milligauss my old RCA ribbon mic or tape machine is spitting out. I would also avoid microwaving those leftovers from yesterday, I hope you didn’t drive a hybrid car to the restaurant as I’m sure their output is quite high as well.
I think we’ve lost perspective here…

thehightenor + EMF stool == the higher tenor? Apart from getting some faraday skivies or a grounding mat on top of the stool, I'd lean toward not using it if it gives off any significant source of EMF. My wife is really concerned about such things so we have a few EMF absorbers around the house. I personally am not as concerned but I'm just a guy who can eat cold pizza after sitting out overnight with no adverse effects... she won't eat any food once its touched room temps.

People go into CT scanners and MRI machines with fields around 1-2T (teslas) which is around 10K-20K Gauss or 1x10^7 milligauss..
And yet they live!
I think you'll be fine. Just don't sit on your wallet with your credit cards in them.
(Just kidding.. Actually, it's almost impossible to erase a credit card with a magnet)

Actually, it's almost impossible to erase a credit card with a magnet) That's true - but you go into an MRI scanner once or twice in an entire lifetime (hopefully never) And when you go in the staff clear the room and go behind a shielded wall! I'm sitting on my vibrating drum stool a couple of hours a day when I'm tracking drums. Is there some sort of EMF shield material I can sit on and still feel the vibrations? It only has to knock down 35mg of EMF to 3ms for me to feel happy again using it.
